Hi all-

This is non tripawd related, but I know a lot of you have kittys in your life, so I thought I'd throw it out there.  Jill's brother Jackson (aka Jack, aka fat brudda) has been having sneezing fits.  Like a LOT.  Probably 2-3 times a night he will wake up from his sleep and sneeze 5-7 times in a row with a little bit of wheezing.  He does not have any nasal discharge or eye discharge.  I'm wondering if any of your kits do this or anyone has any thoughts?  I suppose a trip to the vet is in order....he is otherwise totally healthy, just a bit pudgey :)

Thanks if anyone has any insight :)

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Hmm. I seem to recall quite a few doggies here who have had that same issue so hopefully you can get perspectives from them too.

No first hand insight....does sound like some sort of allergy though. Just happening at night? If so...any detergent change...new pillows, blankets, etc?

Sorry Brudda is hsving issues. Brudda....Fat Brudda....Jack.....can we add Comedian to the names?

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I don't have any insight to this either. Rarely has one of my cats sneeze. Mona did develop dandruff this summer after her amputation. I thought it was due to the cancer and medications. The vet thought it might be seasonal allergies. The dandruff disappeared when fall came. Perhaps Sally is on to something with allergies. I would change the laundry detergent and check it out with the vet if still concerned. Good luck with this.

Sorry I didn't respond to your post earlier but my laptop is toast and I am limited on my access to the internet.  Anyway, my Lil Guy would do that.  Sometimes it actually scared me because he would have a sneezing fit that seemed to last FOREVER and I was afraid he couldn't get a breath.  It never seemed to bother him, he would go about his normal activities and never acted "sick".  My Peanut did that occasionally too and would also at times sound like she was trying to get phlegm up (sorry I know kinda gross).

Towards the end of Lil Guy's life he had a constant discharge from his nose (and I mean constant--I would have to make him sleep on blankets and I was constantly changing/washing them).  He would be better after being on antibiotics but it would always come back in about a week.  I always wondered if he really had something like the feline herpes virus which can be dormant in a lot of cats and when he became geriatric he couldn't fight it off anymore.

Hoping it turns out to be nothing and Jack is just reacting to some allergens.

Thanks everyone!  I'm hoping it's just allergies....maybe my apartment is just really dry, because Jill is having some TERRIBLE dandruff right now....Jack might be too, but it's hard to see since he is so white, but with Jill's black fur you can see it - she looks like she was out in a blizzard!!!!

I would definitely get him checked out if it's out of the blue.  Could be weather or something in the air.  Do you have anything new that has a smell to it?  Perfume, laundry detergent, etc?  I'm just guessing here.

My cat Loki has sneezing fits all the time, but he's always had them and eye/nose discharge.  His sinuses have been messed up since he was a kitten and got infections.  His name was Sneezy before I adopted him...poor kid.  When Loki had problems that actually needed medicine he always had really irritated eyes and was visibly uncomfortable.  But still if Jack is acting different than usual, something must be up even if it's minor.

Feel better Jack!!

SO...the sneezing has not stopped, it has in fact gotten worse, with worsening wheezing....so poor brudda went to the vets tonight........

I always knew my buddy had a big heart but turns out he has an enlarged heart :( he's always had a slight heart murmur, but we've never really had it checked out, and she heard some wheezing in his lungs tonight, so she wanted to do an x-ray.  He has some bronchial something or other evidence or something and a slightly enlarged heart..and she thinks he may have asthma...so he goes in tomorrow for an echocardiogram........a FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLAR ECHOCARDIOGRAM madmadmad

SIGH. Anyhow.  She doesnt seem OVERLY concerned but we have to see what the echo says...I think he's probably had this for quite a while, because he's had the murmur for a while and the bronchial who'siewhatsie is whats causing the sneezing.  So he's starting an antibiotic tonight.

OH ALSO he has a broken tooth and it's obviously bothering him because he's lost a pound since last month, so he needs a dental with an extraction.  This is what I get for neglecting him while taking care of sista.

I'm joking but I hope his heart is ok....now I'm all worried of course but I think its ok........maybe...yeah...its ok......

Awww, poor Brudda. With all the pictures I've seen of him on FB, I think his heart is just full of so much love :) He looks only slightly annoyed in the carrier too, I'm impressed. Sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers your way that Brudda gets well soon!
