So, I am just catching up on this entire post and I'm seriously having a hard time staying in my chair!!!Â
You all just have me cracking up!
We have ducks that live in the park behind our house & every Spring the Canadian geese make their stop along their route home there, too. Max is short & stout at only 35 lbs, but he always freaks out barking, running at the fence as if he's going to take them on! Really, Max, those geese are bigger than you & meaner! He doesn't care, he's a terrier, so he has short man syndrome.
Cassie catches bunnies all the time but the squirrels climb, so they're usually safe. Although not always brilliant - more than once I've watched those stupid squirrels run around the pool deck railing, then jump about 10 feet to the branches of the blue spruce trees! It's way easier to jump over to the shed - maybe 5 feet. Sometimes they miss the branches & land on the ground, from 8 feet up, but they have to run fast, no time to shake it off, or the dogs will catch them!
Then of course, there's the various varmints that decide to live under our deck - ground hog, opossum & raccoon. Mostly nocturnal, so they freak my dogs out when they wander onto the deck lol

Murphy had his right front leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma at 7 years old. He survived 4 years, 2 months & 1 week, only to be taken by hemangiosarcoma at 11 1/2 years 6/12/17 Â

Oh Jasper!!! You are sooo focused!!! Love it! Good thing your Mamma has you on a tight leash!
The Peahen looks a little like the Roadrunner cartoon. And, of course, that leads to naming the Couotes "Wiley" I would love to know Jasper's thought bubble as he sizes Penelope up 🙂 I'm thinking Jasper would want to make friends 🙂
A d Max, you stay away from those geese...more for your protectiin than theirs! 🙂
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Funny how no one names the coyotes. Â Â Â
LOL!!!! Perhaps because we only have the one peahen and countless coyotes ... unless they truly are "wiley" and it's the same one making the rounds! I personally love our neighborhood coyotes and feel sad that they get such a bad wrap around here. They are only trying to live and survive like the rest of us! And I am smart enough to keep Jasper on a short list when it's dark out as to not have her become their meal!Â

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
I am pleased to announce that a possum lived today! Â Unfortunately, it meant dragging my dog out from under a bush by his tail, all the while fearing that the stupid possum (they are not bright) would dart out from under the bush and bite me, but the possum survived unscathed.
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.  Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma. Â
Wherever they are, they are together.
GATOR!!!! You leave that possum alo ! 🙂
She is no match for the Critter Patrol Extraordinaire Gator!! 🙂
And YAY for Mom saving the possum!!
Having had the privilege of "raising and releasing" orphan possums or injured adult possums, I can attest that they are NOT aggressive. They don't have the physical attributes to back up being the aggressor. They are fairly defenseless little beings...they are not fast and they do not have much in the way of "defense". That's why they have to use "offense" techniques like a gapping mouth showing a lot of teeth while hissing. And, of course, their trick of last resort, playing possum and literally not moving so they won't elicit the "prey" response in the "predator".
And oh my gosh, once you've held the paw of a possum you will never find any softer hands on any other being! Nothing sweeter than a possum holding your hand 🙂 🙂 🙂
Okay, okaaay! TMI and the Gator could care less about all this possum nonsense!!! He wants possum for supper!!
What we wouldn't give to have a video of you hauling Gator away from that
possum by his tail!! That Gator is a handfull!!!! Good job Mom!! And I know I hear Otis and Tess laughing their butts off! 🙂 🙂

Nice work, Gator. Ditto, Christine, the possum saviour. The image of you hauling the mighty Gator out by his tail is just priceless.
And Sally, holding a possum's paw....Â
Meg is now in a MONSTER sulk, at all the wildlife she is hearing about that she never gets to chase. Possums? Chipmunks?? Gophers??? It's not fair! she says, why can't we have them too, and she stamps her front paw, which is good for core strength, I suppose, if nothing else.
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, November 2023, adopted January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Elsie Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
Meg - Gator's possum was probably bigger than you are! Â
Today Gator demonstrated the fine art of catching and eating (?) bumblebees. Â I think Murphy does this too, but was a bit of a shock when I realized what he was doing. Â

GATOR!! You are somethin' else!! Thise Gator jaws snap close faster than a Bumble Bee can get away! Guess you just wa ted a bit of honey! Hopefully yiu didn't get stung! No critter of any sort is safe when Gator is on patrol! 🙂

oookay. Possums. #thingsyoudon'tfindinGermany... 🙂
however, wild boars are apparently all over the place and wreck havoc!!
One actually came into our house! Imagine the shock!!
Manni took care of it, however. As he should. (It's dead now, by the way, he killed it and ripped out, um, innards. Don't worry, I won't show that.
Guardian of Manni the Wonderdog. -Or was it the other way around?
