Well Jill's story isn't too original. Her brother from another mother Jackson (but we call him Jack) was here first, so when I adopted her two years later i was forced by everyone to name her Jill. It's a silly name for a cat but she acts more human anyway
She has many nicknames though: Jilly, Bean, BooBoo, Smush, Baby Bear. Jack is Just Jack
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Browsing old posts while waiting for Barret to come out of surgery.. What a fun thread! In the order of the pets I've had as an adult:
[Spirit] Neptune (cat) - our first pet, he was a little black ball of fur, except this big nasty gash on his neck. David thought it looked like the great spot on the planet Neptune... There you have it
[Spirit] Belle (cat) - Neptune's sister. She had blue eyes and I just started calling her my 'blue eyed belle' I guess it stuck
Thumper (cat) - looks just like the rabbit from Bambi, even scratched like him when he was a babe
Smokey (cat) - nothing earth shattering here.. Totally grey kitten. I wasn't very imaginative
Barret (dog) - my husband and I are NERDS. We love a game called Final Fantasy 7. A character, Barret Wallace, reminded us of Barret as a babe (bulky, black, "muscles" though they were really fat rolls). IRONICALLY, Barret Wallace is missing an arm (he has a prosthetic gun arm in the game)... Fate?
Gatsby (dog) - David named him, he was supposed to be his (big, bad, manly) dog. 1. I don't think David remembers the great Gatsby, he wasn't a great guy, and 2. Our Gats grew up to be a miniature shepherd who is the biggest weenie EVER.
Sara (dog) - my favorite song is Zac and Sara by Ben Folds. I figured we had a video game reference, movie reference, and literary reference... Missing a music reference! We actually call her Sissy when she is not in trouble. Not sissy as a derogatory term, but it was shortened from Little Sissy (as in sister). That name really stuck though, even her groomer calls her sissy, lol
Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
Thanks for bringing this up again! It's great because there's always new people here who can share their stories. I love how your critter kids were named!

I've had so many...
Rover(mutt)-I was six, what did you expect?
Cowboy(Dobie) - We rodeo so it was a given.
Zeke(Springer)-My husband named him so not sure where it came from.
The next batch may make you think we drink a lot! We just started naming our dogs after booze! All were/are mini aussies
CC/Cutler's Canadian Club (angel)
Cutter/Cutler's Cuttysark (angel)
Marty/Cutler's Martini & Rossi (angel)
Shooter/Cutler's Whiskey Shooter
Rosie/Tequila Rose
Frosty/Frosty Mug of Beer
And last, but not least, Big Papi (papillion) who my husband named after the designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox!
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Oh. My. DOG! Best. Names. EVER!

We had two dogs- Sallie (tripawd) was a rescue and came with her name. Ozymandius was our English Bulldog we lost to heart disease. He picked his name the day we picked him up. While sitting in my husband's lap, we called out names. He licked my husband when we called out Ozymandius. It was a name that suited him as he aged.
Ozymandius is a great name! What is it from? A movie or something?
