I didn't know where to place this thread as there are so many good ones here but I wanted to recommend a great book!
I love Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote. It is so wonderfully written. It is a story about the love he had with his dog. I read it right before my rottie/shepperd mix Jazzy passed away. I found it to be so comforting and I loved how he loved his dog. It's the kind of book that makes you reflect back often on it as you see a certain dog, or when I look at the mountains. I ended up with tears streaming down my face because of the love he shared with Merle. It makes me happy that I have that connection too.I would also like to recommend a couple of other author's who write "dog" books. Who else has some great dog books they want to recommend? I comb the bookstores thoroughly to find fiction and non-fiction stories. There suprisingly (as much as America loves thier dogs) not that many…

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
-Chloe's mom
P.S. We all have great dog blogs and lots of stories there to share. I am pretty sure I have enough posts in the last two months to nearly have half a book written!
Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Great topic, thanks! Our selection of recommended dog books can be found in the Tripawds Amazon Selections blog, where anyone can feel free to submit a review.
A couple of Jerry's recent favorites ...

Ok, I am excited about Jerry's list and will check out all 3.
I read Marley and Me way before it came to be a movie. I appreciated the great writing but was wishing I could go in and talk to the "owner" about his casual training. It took away somewhat from the story line for me. I kept thinking.. there are so many easy fixes here!
I have a complete library from a lady writer that didn't start writing until she was in her 70's. Her name is Virginia Lanier and she is brilliant in her writing. Blind Bloodhound Justice is one book and there are many in this series. I can't remember which one came first but if you read one, you will read them all.

Two dog books I've read recently are Lost and Found by Jacqueline Sheehan and The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I really loved the latter because it is written from the dog's point of view, and because the main character (besides the dog) is a race car driver.
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

I have read and enjoyed both of those. Racing in the Rain had a quote I liked which was something like when you're driving slow turn big, when your driving fast, drive small... Something like that. So when I am speeding, lol, I always keep it in my mind to do small moves! I too liked that it was written from the dog's perspective. If I remember right the story line placed the driver in Washington State.
For those of you that haven't read it, I won't spoil the ending. But to Sadie33, I liked the "concept" very much!

OOOooh! I forgot to mention that the picture of Merle on the cover of Merle's door reminds me of Lincoln, in the Blog of Licolns summer..

A somewhat different book that has made an impact for me is Tea and Dog Biscuits: Our First Topsy-Turvy Year Fostering Orphan Dogs by Barrie Hawkins. Written in England, this book definately tells the trials and tribulations of fostering and rehoming. While Barrie works with GSD, the story is true about all who foster, and is one of the primary reasons why I wanted to offer this home to the organization fostering Avvy. So, it is one of the main reasons why I chase white fuzz balls today.
This kind of reading is exactly what I am looking for. When I go into a bookstore it is hard to find a true animal lover behind the counter. So I don't get a chance to find out more than "animal topics, isle 4".
Awesome guys!
Thanks and keep them coming, I just got paid and there is a bookstore with my name on it somewhere this weekend :O)
