That really is great news! I am so glad that this looks like it might be turning around. Please give your folks a big ole Tripawds hug from all of us
I love the photo, such a heart melter Keeping all fingers, toes, paws, and tails crossed for you guys! If this is fungal I wonder if they are going to do oral and topical treatments. Will be interesting to see what they find. I know Cocker Spaniels can be notorious for yeasty skin kinds of infections, especially in the ears. Hopefully this will be really easy to treat so you can all move on to enjoying the Spring that is right around the corner!

New pathology came back negative for fungal. So they’re not sure what it is.
David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)
Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

That's crazy! But crazy in a good way! It's not causing any issues for him as far as how he feels, etc right? Wjat's there plan now, of anything at this point.
Maybe it's as Jackie said, just one of those "things" Cocker Spaniels get, maybe?
See if a scoop of ice cream clears it up! If I recall, Baxter liked Frosty Paws.
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Whatever it is, it's spreading. It's probably just a matter of time until it starts to cause serious issues. So they need to figure out and treat it pretty quick, I'd think.
My dad said the vet has reached out to other vets for help in figuring it out. My dad may end up taking Tigger to Auburn so they can take a look at it and see if they can figure it out.

Wow David, that is crazy! I have no doubt that they would know if it was just a skin infection, and I am sure they did a scraping for any mites. Yeast is pretty easy to test too. Skin allergies generally have their own habits and forms too ... I wonder if something bit him? I sure hope they find out what it is quickly. Hopefully the vet knows someone that excels in derm. Fingers crossed for all of you!!

Tigger is at Auburn today. They've confirmed it's not cancer but rather some sort of infection. Still trying to determine exactly what type of infection, but they think they can treat it with steroids.

Well, that is a step in the right direction, yes? So very sorry that you are going through this ... and it feels like it is taking forever to diagnose. I can only imagine how long it feels to all of you. How is Tigger acting otherwise?
Sending you all pawsitive thoughts, I really hope they get to the bottom of it finally

Geez.....what in the world is going on Tigger??? Auburn University? Yeah, you aren't gonna' get some run of the mill easy to,diagnose stuff!
Glad they've ruled out the nasty c thpugh! That IS good news!.
Hoping the steroids will help. Sometimes they can do magic when nothing else works.
Thanks for the update. Hugs to all the pack

YESSSSS! Oh boy that's better than cancer. I'm so happy to hear this. You've got some brilliant researchers working on his behalf, I'm sure they will come up with a diagnosis soon. And may he start to feel better too.
I'd love to know what the dx is. Thanks for letting us know.

My dad called me while he's driving back. Definitely a good day with good news.
They're testing now for "swamp cancer" which apparently is some sort of nasty infection and not cancer, despite its name. They don't think it's that, but they want to 100 percent rule it out before proceeding.
They took another CT scan today and compared it to the one from a couple of weeks ago. Whatever it is, seems to be receding. So obviously that's good news. Hopefully they can pinpoint exactly what it is soon and get started on treating it.
Auburn is a top-notch vet school. My dad is really impressed by them today.
Tigger (like Baxter) is just a really happy-go lucky dog. Very friendly. But apparently after hours of being poked and prodded, he had enough and growled a few times to let them know he was over it. He got rewarded with a hamburger on the drive home, according to my dad.

WOW! Leave it to Tigger to get some bizarre crap!! Yesh, the name sounds awful, but in this case, it's not bad at all!
I think even the most chill dawg in the world can finally get fed up with the prodding and snd poking. And Tigge let it be known! I hope the cheeseburger helped him get over it.
All the dogs in you and your family have are truly lucky to be so loved❤

Tigger you totally earned that burger. That's a lotta people looking at you for a long time, I'd get cranky too.
Swamp cancer...wow that's a new one! Let us know if that's the diagnosis. We learn so much from members here!

I wonder if there's another term for it. Either way, I'm glad he's doing better..... Tigger needs to demand a steak next time 💝👍👍👍

I've heard that blastomycosis presents like an aggressive cancer and can be found in swampy areas. A few years ago we had a number of dogs in my community pickup Cryptococcus gattii (a yeast-like fungus in trees and surrounding soil and spread by pigeons). Thankfully vets have a blood test that helps in diagnosing the disease.
It sounds like Tigger is getting the best care. I hope they find the answer and he recovers soon. Sounds like we have to keep our pets from swamps and pigeons!

Just realized I never came back to update. Sorry about that.
Pythium/Pythiosis is the actual term for the "swamp cancer". Good news is the pathology came back negative for it. I don't think my dad ever got a definitive diagnosis, but for now they're treating it with steroids. And Tigger is doing well.
Hope everyone is staying safe. Baxter gets a break from "guarding the house" since I'm working from home for the foreseeable future. And we've been taking extra long walks since I'm not sure going to the gym right now is wise. We saw a duck yesterday and he decided he loves ducks as much as loves squirrels.
