Sorry I've been MIA and hadn't responded to a couple requests for updates. My bad. I had a project come through which is very exciting and demanding. And Sky is doing better as well.

He is getting around well on his 3 legs apart from jumping up on furniture.  This week which is 6 weeks out from surgery, I noticed a change in his personality. Happier and more normal.  Seems to be adjusting.  His sutures are almost completely out - I think there are only 2 left and the incision is healed.  His hair regrowth is still slow due to the Prednisolone.

I came this || close to taking him for an ultrasound for his gastro intestinal issues. Then on Monday he started having normal stools. YAY! I can't tell you how exasperated I was becoming with that issue. I have him on 7.5 mg Pred, and Proviable powder religiously in his food. Right now things are stable.

So I think we turned a corner at this point. He seems less stressed. It's still hard to see that area where the leg is missing and he works really hard to walk slowly. He actually seems better at running up and down the stairs than normal walking.

I will try to keep updating but now I am spread thinner than I was. I'm grateful I had the time to devote to caring for Sky when he needed me most. And grateful to all of you for your help and kindness!!!

Pawsome update!! Thank you so much. We all lead busy lives, and sometimes things need to get put on the back burner for a moment.

On the other hand, given all the variables it's wonderful to see how we he's doing at such a crucial time. It's hard to not worry when they are so new to the Tripawd life, especially through recovery.

Big hugs and way to go! Sending pawsitive thoughts and pawsitive energy your way.

Gosh, I'm so sorry I worried you folks!! Sometimes I don't realize that people care.

Our biggest issue right now is keeping his intestinal issues under control. Sky really seems content and just in the past week he looks at me like he used to do. Not so confused and frustrated.

He has a new habit of a closed mouth mewmur.. don't know how to describe it. And he uses it to let me know to feed him every 4 hours. That includes nighttime! So I'm up at 2am and 6 am give or take a half hour. I'm not as exhausted as I was when I had to give him the Calfate on an empty stomach 3 times a day and the Pred on a full stomach twice a day plus the other meds.. that was ridiculous! But it's still not ideal.  Otherwise, meds are a relative breeze. He's on gabapendin probably for the rest of his life due to his spine but that's compounded honey flavor so not bad to give. And I crush his Pred and mix it in beef baby food.. MUCH easier.

He's on the bed with me right now grooming his incision. I don't think it's painful. He's happy. clap

So Hop-a-long Sky is doing well. I'm so grateful for your caring and for being there when I was freaking out and so very upset.

THANK YOU!!! clap And very happy holidays to you all!!!

Really? We check in on Sky & You because we DO CARE and as Sally said when we don't hear back we worry. We all have busy lives as Jackie mentioned we take the time out of our lives to volunteer and help another soul. That's not the world today I get that, but that is this site for the most part.

So glad to hear things are going well and you have a
new exciting project. Sky is at his new normal, and the belly issues are stable! I know with Purrkins brother things change every so often, and you have to tweak again.

All tripawds do run better then they do hop you can't even tell they are on three running. They are inspirational and more amazing on three. As for the furniture, you can add pet steps to help Sky get back up there. Or tier furniture as steps.

Thanks for the update!
Have a fantastic Pawliday Season.
Scratches to Sky and the rest of your furmily.

Amen Holly! That is what we are here for smiley  With all of us having to deal with so many different things (some dealing with all of it at once!) I think we can all appreciate how much of a godsend coming here was. Most of us stick around just to pay it back. There is a lot more love here than most places, and that love is what helps others through the heart wrenching experiences while they are trying to save their companions. There is also respect, another thing that is tough to come by today. And as we share experiences we also learn from each other. People like Holly, Rene, and so many others are constantly researching and finding newer updates that they share with us to help keep everypawdy up to date in the most current medicine, therapy, products, and procedures.. it really is a blessing to find a place that is on top of the most cutting edge of medicine.

Wishing you and your family a peaceful holiday season filled with love and happiness as Sky continues to recover!

Thanks Holly and Jackie for your ongoing support! I would be more responsive if I received notifications when anyone posts here, but I've yet to find that as an option. Is there a "notifications" setting?

And Holly, I actually have 2 sets of steps up to the bed. However, Sky isn't using either of them!  One is a fabric covered foam one with 4 steps that he used to use. (Also my Cavalier Marlowe uses them.) But when Sky had his surgery - and also because I was concerned about Marlowe falling off the foam steps - I bought another set that are carpet over wood. So sturdier. The planks are wider and there is only 3 steps. Neither pet has used them. sad Both have leg issues. I'm not sure how to encourage Sky. He tried the foam ones not long after his surgery and when he couldn't do it them, i guess he gave up.  Any suggestions are welcome!

I'll try to check in more often if notifications aren't available.

Thanks,

Huck uses steps sometimes, most times not though so I have things placed so that he can hop up with less effort. He is pig headed though so if he wants to jump down from something he does it his way.

At the top of each thread you see some boxes, one of them is your profile. I think that is where the options are if I remember correctly. I get an email every time somebody posts in a thread that I have subscribed to. I have mine set to automatically subscribe to a thread that I make a post on. That is the only way that I know. If you hop over to the technical support and ask I have no doubt they can give you better information than I, lol. It seems like forever ago when I set up my preferences so I am sure I may be a little rusty.

I don't know if this will help or not but if you get some of their favorite treats and place them on the steps one hop at a time, that may help re-introduce the steps and help them each to get more acclimated to using them. Just a thought.

Thanks, Jackie, for the tip to ask Technical Support. It's a subscription in the yellow box at the bottom rather than in profile.

Now, hopefully, I won't miss posts!

I'll try using the treats. At this point i think Sky is well spoiled and likes to be picked up. winker  He is snuggled up between my legs now..after I picked him up. But it would be nice if he could go back to jumping up himself. And help me get my zzzz's. I think he is strong enough at this point to be able to do it.

Ditto use treats. I put treats on each step for Purrkins up and down one time that was all it took for us. I put them in his favorite places. Both the cats use the steps. If you are picking Sky up every time yep there is no reason for him to learn, so that's up to youwinker Try some treats and guide him up and down see how it goes.

You can subscribe in your profile box as well. You can subscribe to posts you start and posts you post in there is a checkbox for both or hit the heart at the bottom of the thread all will do the job. Looks like you posted in tech support the Admin put screenshots for you. Hopefully, you are subscribed.

YAY - it worked! I received an email notification. Now I won't miss any of your posts clapclapclap

I'll work on the treats. The problem is that I have to keep Marlowe out - dueling goals: Sky can eat as much as he wants, Marlowe is supposed to lose weight and eats anything he finds..  So he has to be out of the room and thinks that is unacceptable. I'll work it out though. Oh, Sky's hair is growing back! At least on his back and side. His tummy is still pretty bald but the rest is looking so much better!!

Progress!!!

Hi Sally!

I look forward to not noticing as much. Still gives me chills.  I'm forever more a wuss.ugh

Sent Sky's weights for the past month to my vet. She was amazed! He has gone from 8.8 lbs after surgery to 9.26 today. That's half a pound. He outta weigh more. He gets fed whenever he asks. big-grin

Glad I'm now receiving the notifications. I had no idea you lovely people were posting to me.

Thanks as always!

And listen, you jave a lot going on....a lot of good things...so don't  feel like you need to respond  to us all the time.   SKY has a lot of fans and that would be a lot of replies!
