18 1/2 yrs young???????   WOW!!!

SPIKE IS A MIRACLE KITTY!! 🙂

I really have no advice avout drugging or not.   Itsq possible that the drug she gave him last time was ACE (something like aceetaphine..ha...not even close with that spelling).  Itsw a drug that CAN cause respiratory collapse.  It's, in my opinion, a lretty scary way to semi-sedate an animal.  And it can definitely give the appearance of making them look as though they're passed out.

Guess the only thing I woukd want to know from the Vet is this.  If it's herpes conjunctivitis, what's the treatme t?   Is it something youucan treat at home?  Is it something thst requires more invasive treatment?  If itsw more imore invasive, then, if the eye isn't really bothering him you may opt out of treati g it.

Usually nasty green stuff is an infection.  Do you think it's worth a try to just treat with droos for an infection first to see if it helps.

Not much help.  I'm sorry you're in this dilemma.  Give Mr Spike an extra ear scratch for me.

Love and hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Do you have the option of a home vet visit?  My vet Does not offer this but I know my friends vet does.

Rusty "The Bunnyman" adopted us in 2014.  Aug/Sept 2017, back left leg amputated (HSA cancer).  He remained cancer free over 900 days. Cancer returned as of emergency visit on day 931. 15 days later, he gained his wings 04/18/2020 due to congestive heart failure.  He will always watch over his fellow tripawds and their hoomins with Head Scritches and Sand Paper Kisses.

Hi Guys!

l really do love you guys for hopping right in to help me out in my time of Aaaack moment!

Sally: I believe that he actually passed out, Dr. Laurie was surprised and concerned at the time.... he came out of it fairly quickly and then passed out again at home. We both said back then that we would try and not take Spike in again, as we figured it was too much in him and we would just let our boy age as we all do... gracefully and sometimes in discomfort. Our fella eats like a piglet! He LOVES his chicken!

Paul definitely doesn’t want any invasive treatment either! We just want to do what we can for him and bring him home. I think he is in pain, as he grabs my hand and holds it against his eye. My poor boy! We are giving him drops and it seems to help with the green, but now it’s very brown coloured. Also a little inflamed.

Gina: yes, our vet will come out to our home. We have called on her a few times, especially for our babies who have had needed help crossing over to the Rainbow 🌈Bridge.

Right now, we have a little bit of chaos going on.... Stewie’s treatments, my back treatments (Plasma Replacement Platelet Therapy), our houseboat got shipwrecked up on the beach the other day during tornado force winds!) Miss Lily and Chester had their check ups two weeks ago and now Mr Spike! I know life happens, but holy cow, I wish it wouldn’t happen all at once!!! So asking the vet To come out right now is not feasible. 😊 Damned if we do and damned if we don’t...

We are going in today and Paul is more than satisfied to not drug Spike at all and let him deal with the situation as he needs to. If it becomes too much we will stop and bring him home. Both Holly and Jackie have given me some great advice and we will snuggle him up like a bug in a cacoon and give him extra, extra cuddles from you all.

I will definitely let you all know later as to how thing went. Thanks so much you guys, I really, really appreciate you all!

love to everyone, especially my fur friends!❤️

It is amazing how much you are still doing for your fur babies with everything else going on! You are in my prayers for your health too. Spike is amazing too!

Rusty Darling! You have put ANOTHER smile on my face today! I LOVE your carrot 🥕, I don’t suppose you would let go of that so easily would you?! 😸 Can’t wait to see how you treat your mouses! 🐁

Hello again everyone!

First of all may I start by saying THANK YOU a million times over for ALL of your support today! You all were able to channel some lovely calmness into my head and sent me off to the Dr.s with a Purpose in mind.

Paul and I talked about it and we chose to forgo the Gabapentin and allow Spike the chance to deal with the situation on his terms and not all messed up on drugs. He is and always has been a very strong willed boy! He has stopped both Stewie and our angel Abbey (a great Pyranese), dead in their tracks when he hasn’t agreed with their behaviour. It is really something to see! Anyhow I digress... HE DID EXCEPTIONALLY WELL TODAY!!!🙏😁heart

The 45 minute drive into town was at first a little loud. Spike made sure that we heard him loud and clear that he knew what we were up to and he DEFINITELY was not happy with the situation. We were in contact through his kennel door the whole way and I explained why we had to do this and by the time we go at to the clinic, he was pretty damn calm about the situation! big-blink

Dr. Laurie, bless her heart made sure the clinic was nice and calm, the distressed puppy in the back kennel even got a rare treat and got to sit with Jackie at the front desk! She checked out Spikes eye and was very pleased to see that the drops are actually working and the inflamed redness had most definitely gone down, from what she could see in the picture the other day. She cleaned up the whole area and although it still looks a little sore, it is certainly improved. He isn’t feeling emancipated, he is just getting skinny in his old age. His heart rate was great!!! Spike was handling all that was going on Super well, so we decided to continue the exam. He got a little grumpy with the poker up his bottom (understandably so heh?!) and tried super hard to push it back out before the time was up. You can well imagine the expression on his face!!! 👿Then we really decided to push it and  take blood work...👹 Jackie came in to assist and that was when Spike said... heh, hold up... we’ve had a great visit so far, I’ve tolerated a poker up my arse, now your bringing in outside forces... right then the battle begins!!! He made sure he yelled really loudly, totally intimidating poor Jackie, but we all stood firm in our lines! Dr. Laurie did a mega quick blood draw and before Spikey’s big guns came out the war was over and he stomped back into his kennel!!😾 He handled it all incredibly well and I was super pleased that even though he was very pissed off, he didn’t get OVERWHELMED!!! YAAAAY FOR MY SPITFIRE SPIKE!!! 😻

To top off a really good visit, his blood work came back surprisingly stable!!! His number including his creatin is the same as it was 4 years ago!! She also checked his potassium levels and they came back within normal range, so we all were really really pleased about those results!!! We have been so afraid for our Spike for so many years and it was all down to the drugs that we thought would help him!!! Big lesson learnt today!

By the time Spike was back into his truck, he was already back to his regular self and leaning against my arm for loving and some comfort! A HUGE weight has been lifted off of our shoulders today! We can hope to have our old fella with us for many more years to come, hopefully into his 20’s, just like Holly said they can!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! ALL OF YOU ARE INCREDIBLE, KIND HEARTED SOULS AND I AM SOOOOO GRATEFUL FOR YOU ALL!!!

Love hugs and kisses to every single one of you sweet, watu wazuri (Kenyan quiz!🤔) souls ❤️❤️❤️

Rusy, thank you once agin for letting us hijack your thread buddy! Spike says three paws up to you Pal, you’re an inspiration!

Petra, Paul, Spitfire Spike, Chesterfield, Miss Lily and our big Smoochable boy Stewie heartheartheart

P.s. i am going over to update Stewie’s forum regarding his acupuncture treatment today.... more smiles and more thank you’s 😁🙏❤️

Sorry i I tried to type as quick as i could... I had too many EMOJIS!!! 😂
