Always listen to your gut instinct ok! If you feel better for the Sunday decone! Do Sunday whatever you feel is right is right! I just wanted to show you what Purrkins looked like & I was home to be watch him and he did lick and clean and clean and clean! I just wouldn't want him to chew of course and then you end up with the incision being open again.

I agree celebration will be in order & you biggest celebrations will be the joy of seeing Rusty hop on happily with no cone! But yes celebrate with a treat whatever and ice-cream ok in moderation of course! As you see with Saxton we just let him taste he has IBD sooooo we really have to be careful.

The incision looks good! I agree that following your gut instinct is best. I always play it extra-cautious with vet instructions, since I've seen a lot of crazy things that animals do when recovering from surgery. The weekend isn't that far off, you'll feel so much better if you listen to your instinct. Not only will you have more fun at ComiCon without worry but Rusty will keep out of trouble. Enjoy!

Hi Rusty, how wonderful to meet you! You sure have shown Mum all about Tripawd power heh?! Great job on your recovery!

Mum, you’re doing a great job, don’t feel like your being overly cautious, it’s not a bad thing... our fur babies sometimes forget (or don’t care!) that they are missing a limb, they just know they’re feeling better and can sometimes go overboard with their Zing for life!😁

Sunday Special sounds good to me too... ❤️ 🐠 🐔 ❤️ 🐠 🍦 ❤️  🐠 🍤❤️🍫 (okay, the chocolate is for you!)

Have a blast at Comic Con!

It's the final countdown!  We decided to be cautious and stay with Sunday evening cone removal ceremony.  We figured we waited this long, we might as well give him the extra three days for the incision to heal as fully as possible.

Rusty "The Bunnyman" adopted us in 2014.  Aug/Sept 2017, back left leg amputated (HSA cancer).  He remained cancer free over 900 days. Cancer returned as of emergency visit on day 931. 15 days later, he gained his wings 04/18/2020 due to congestive heart failure.  He will always watch over his fellow tripawds and their hoomins with Head Scritches and Sand Paper Kisses.

we had bought the comfy cone, brought him to my local vet, and then had THEM put it on with a collar and gauze! We couldn't do it ourselves. 😊

Big day is tomorrow, how is it going? I have been wrapped in Huckleberry-land for the last several days. Today is day one of 9 off, yay! I have been mostly a slug and a kitty cuddler today, so I have been poking around the site and was just wondering how you are doing? Fingers crossed for you, good thoughts going your way.

Hugs heart

Final countdown!! Thank you for all of the support!

we are down to the last 24 hours!  Rusty has been a very good boy but somewhat quiet. Very loving.  He has been  sleeping on the bed or in the computer room underneath the desk for most of the time. He will get out and explore a little bit, but not too much. I really think this will all change once the cone has been removed.

Sunday is a crazy day with us getting home late so we decided to wait until the night to do the 'Official Cone Removal' ceremony (as his visiting human cousins have dubbed it.❤️)

They have been absolutely wonderful with him. We get home after being out for over 12 hours and they are in my bedroom crawled up on my bed and sitting on the floor in front of the bed talking with him, scratching his head, and just loving him and telling him it will be alright-most of the time all of this is happening before I even get my jacket off.  (it is kind of funny. The three that go in there the fastest are 16, 18 19 and over 6 foot tall). It melts my heart.

We have been deconed!

Of course one of the first things he did was go underneath the dining room table and proceed to lick and bite the area. Not really much I can do to distract him right now. Hoping that everything was healed up enough and that things will calm down.

I keep reminding myself he has not been able to bathe himself for almost a month. It is making me nervous though.

Oh my goodness, he is so purrrfectly sweet! He looks like the cat that caught the mouse now! If it has been a month his suture line is long healed.  I bet once he gets a good bath he will chill. Good for you!! You are an awesome furrmommy, he looks simply maahvelous!!

Did Rusty like the soft serve? Yaaaaay for the official DECONED!
Yes he will lick & clean it normal, biting ? I would think it’s healed enough by now he wont reopen it?!

Purrkins did not reopen his but he did not bite at his either. Cant imagine it will be a issue, not sure either.
I would say something when he goes to bite NO BITING & distract him.

The second picture Rusty is smiling 😸I'M FREE!!!🎉🎉🎊🎉😻😸😽

He looks great! The new normal has begun!

Hugs & chin scratches to Rusty!

So I was watching him as he laid on my bed bathing. The biting seems to be more like trying to remove something solid like a scab or piece of food stuck on fur. I think it is ok.
