Lucky looks fantastic! And you have gotten great advise from wonderful people I attempted a couple of times to respond and got sidetracked and lost my posts, I am so sorry. It sounds like Lucky is doing wonderful, and bravo for getting the photos down!! Omc he is so adorable.
It sounds like you are managing things really well. I had all the faith in the world that you would handle it better than you gave yourself credit for
Even now, three years later, Huck will try to scratch his ear with his missing limb and it does this little quiver. I reach over and give his ear and chin a good scratch and he is fine. It is not phantom limb pain, totally different and does not bother him.
So sorry I have been behind. I am catching up though 🙂

Jackie and Huck

It's been a few days so I thought I would update all of you on Lucky's progress. He is still doing fantastic! I weaned him off of the buprenorphine so he is only on the gabapentin every 8 hours. We go back to the vet on Friday for a recheck. I'm hoping we can "spring" him from captivity. He does seem to be doing more sleeping than when I was in the room with him 24 hours a day. This could be boredom even though he has toys to play with. Now that I am back to work I spend most of the evening in the room with him. My husband spends some time during the day with him as well. He is eating and drinking so I'm not too concerned. I will definitely mention it to the vet on Friday along with checking on putting him on Omega 3 supplements. He does play when I interact with him. He loves to chase the flying bird on a stick!!!

We were thinking of you both. We knew you were going back to work, glad all is going so well!!

This could be the gabapentin. I noticed this when Purrkins was on GABA alone. Sedation. With buprenorphine & gaba he would go from racer rabbit to sedation. I know you mentioned Lucky was on Gaba before the amp. They did increase the dosage. (just a thought) and they do adjust to Gaba, and the sedation does go away; they adjust.
Lucky just had major surgery amp plus neuter. He knows he needs to let his body heal - rest is best.
And we hope the same Lucky FREE to be a cat:)

Great news at Lucky's checkup! He has no limitations. Surgeon was very happy with the incision and his overall apparent lack of (or controlled by gabapentin) pain. I tried to put him in his room for a nap before letting him loose, but he escaped as soon as Doug went in to see him!! He just spent the last 1/2 hour literally running up the hall and jumping in a box only to jump right back out and race back down the hall again then repeat - all with a toy in his mouth!! Makes this momma extremely happy to see him thrilled with life!! If I can get a video of his antics I will try to figure out how to post it!
Thank you all for your support, advice and encouragement before during and after surgery!!!!! I am so glad I found this site!!! I will keep you informed on our Little Man!!

Great news, I have a strange feeling that cats quite enjoy having three legs, or at least that the impression they give.
- "what shall be done for these innocents? I have been warned not even to raise the question of animal immortality, lest I find myself “in company with all the old maids”. I have no objection to the company" - C S Lewis (The Problem of Pain)
- "Mr Toplady was touched by the cruelty of the scene, and exclaimed, ' Who could bear to see that sight, if there were not to be some compensation for these poor suffering animals in a future state' 'I certainly hope,' said my grandfather, ' that all the bulls will go to heaven; but do you think this will be the case with all the animal creation' 'Yes, certainly,' replied Mr Toplady, with great emphasis, ' all, all!" - Josiah Bull (recording a meeting with the great A. M. Toplady, author of "Rock of Ages" in "Memorials of the Rev. William Bull of Newport, Pagnel")
- "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God" Luke 12:6
