If you can get pumpkin in go for it. I have never had luck with pumpkin and our cats;) Always go for natural if you can get away with it! Miralax is great because it goes undetected😉 Yes I am sure the AD helped also, great food in recovery! Your doing great Huckleberry & Mom & Dad!! Look forward to the slinking kitty video;)

Brother Oscar... he is a different soul.  Oscar was found by one of my co-workers the year before last. He was ~5 weeks old, and sitting on the coil of the suspension in my boss's Challenger.  His feral mom was laying on the ground underneath. We grabbed him, could not get mama. He was NOT a happy boy, almost ate one of my co-workers fingers lol.  Oscar was just as feral as mama, but I had a huge advantage... I was bigger than him LOL.  I put him in a box, my dear sweet love of a husband came and got him and put him in our downstairs half bathroom.  It took about a week for him to stop hissing, spitting, and acting like he was going to eat us alive.. what a PIP! After he tested negative for leukemia, was wormed, etc etc.. he met Andy. We had only had Andy for about 3 weeks, he was also a rescue. Andy fathered Oscar .. oh my word he had the patience of an angel with him. As Oscar grew he became just the sweetest character. He is spoiled rotten, hard headed, loves us all on HIS own terms. Races me to the bathroom every morning and evening to drink out of the sink after I brush my teeth. He is a hunter, I never knew how many lizards actually made it IN to my sunroom until we started finding lizard halves on our sunroom floor. Oscar might be part pit-bull... he thinks it is all about HIM heart

With that being said (hahah) Oscar does not know what to do with Huckleberry.  He follows Andy panda to the crate, looks inside and I swear the look he gets is Oh.. it's you... ( imaging sarcasm, heavy sarcasm, hah). He turns on his paw and walks away like the biggest prima-dona I have ever seen. He doesn't hiss, no spitting. Huck will meow, head butt the crate and Oscar boy is like yeah... laters dude.

Other than that Oscar is simply Oscar. He does not seem put off enough to be troubled, David and I have given Oscar, Andy, and Mitchell the wonder dog extra attention so that they don't feel left out.  Oscar was the last adoption (until now) and I just don't think he knows what to make of it. When Huckles was outside Oscar went WILD! He jumped at the window, did a huge dance and jig, he actually looked for Huckleberry when he was not in the yard.  I think this might be a case of "careful what you wish for" lololol. I think once Huckles is healed and healthy, Oscar will have found himself another playmate. I think he also will have met his match, I am just laughing at the up and coming future as I shake my head and wonder why this dang stuff always happens to us??

Woo hoo!

Day 4: Huckleberry is doing well! I have been watching his suture line and counting the days to 10. Yesterday I found a staple on his bed. The suture line is looking really good, we have one staple gone and one loose. I am not convinced it is his licking as much as it is his activity.  Im keeping a close eye and hoping we don't need to use the cone of shame  what-ever His spirits are still good, and I finally got some video action so you can see the handsome young man that is socializing beyond anything I expected this early!

I tried to put the video here but I am getting an error. I have seen it done, just have to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Last one for now. Andy came to visit yesterday morning and it was so sweet.  I want so badly to give him run of the room but I can't risk this progress.

Perfect! Huckleberry knows how to heal and you've done such a great job in helping him along. Congratulations! clap

Andy is so respectful. I suspect Huckleberry had a home at one time because he seems so calm. What do you think?

That tabby tail on Andy is incredible! Who did he steal that tail from? laughing He reminds me of a sick cat who moved into my house and was living in my spare room. The black on the ears was the same, white body, but the tail was black. I didn't know he was in my house until he went into my dining area, vomited, took a drink of water and went back to "his" room. Meanwhile my two cats totally ignored him.

Hugs and chin scratches to your clowder and Mitchell of course.

Andy is a special boy, and so unusual looking. I cannot believe he made it into the shelter twice! When I asked why he was returned, I was told he didn't get along with other cats.....omw!!!

Huckles came to us as pawsitively feral as a cat could be. We could not even touch him until he had been with us for almost a month. When he came back from his initial visit for his leg, he started turning around at an amazing pace. I have never ever seen a cat respond like he has, and Andy deserves most of the credit for that. When I had a vet come to the house to try and evaluate him initially, Huckles was hanging from the top of the crate hissing, meowing, in a total panic. Omg I was horrified that he would hurt himself even more. The vet wanted NOTHING to do with that and he bowed out as gracefully as he could. We had to make another appointment outside of the house for a second evaluation. We had to put the carrier into the crate, my husband used a long stick to shut the carrier door, I put on leather gloves to latch the carrier. The second doc had to knock him out before she could do a physical on him. When she gave me the news about his leg needing to be amputated, I thought her mouth was going to hit the floor when I told her we were going to proceed with surgery instead of putting him to sleep.  Since the surgery he is like having a different cat. I crawl half way into his crate, we butt heads, and I kiss him. He pretty much throws himself at you for attention when you visit him in his room, and except for the TV, which he does not know what to do with, he has calmed down like I never thought I would see any time soon. I feel truly blessed to have him responding the way he is. I am praying that he will stay the same once he has free run of the room and then the house. Fingers crossed.

Hi fur babies,
Andy, Panda, La Croix Oscar I see you buddy, Mitchell snoozing with Oscar on top of him is adorable!
Oscar leave the poor🦎🦎 alone 🤢 😮
Way to go on mastering the Youtube🎉

Huckleberry is doing great ! He is a love bug! I’m sure he was in terrible pain with the leg, then he is pain and feeling trapped in the cage, not knowing what next!? I think we all would react that way! He is showing you who he is now! Sweet man!

Huckleberry you leave those staples alone! I would think he has licked them, just saying that's normal for them to want to lick. Tell him no lick or the cone show him the cone! I did that with Purrkins with his biopsy surgery he pushed me 2 times I said no lick & showed him the cone, he stopped, he did it again, No lick, I put the cone on he freaked out and there was no more licking or problems;) Worth a try with Huckleberry if you can catch him in the act!

I think the pawgress you have made with them already is fantastic! It looks like they will be great brothers!
I wouldn’t risk it, you cant go back if you have a issue, so keep going forward slowly!! You will never be sorry for that !
Thanks for sharing the crew!

Hugs & Purrs, & scratches

Thank you so much,  I needed positive reinforcement today.  Today has not been a good day for the Huckster.  After I inspected his suture line,  gave him that wonderful a/d with a touch of Friskies he wouldn't eat.  And he left food from yesterday and didn't eat his dry. Yeah.. the good injection has lived its life and its out of his system.  He spent most of the day in his cat box,  grrrr. We set up the tv and music so we were in the room a lot today,  still in the box.  After Andy visited him,  still in the box.  It took about 2 hours for me to finally get him to eat his gaba.  Didn't want tuna juice,  didn't want tuna,  finally had some with fancy feast mixed in (3 times). I went over and talked him out of his box. I don't know if you all know this but i have not picked him up yet.  He came slowly out of the box and tripped.  I picked him up,  his mouth opened with my arm in it and i just froze.  He chose not to bite me,  whew.  Took his mouth off my arm and ate all his food,  meds and all. Oh,  just so you get the visual,  mama had the side door open,  crawled part way into the crate,  head down... you got the picture 😂  i got up,  filled his bowl with another half a can,  assumed the position and he ate all of that! He has loosened a couple more staples😭😭  he's killing me😠😠. Then he decided to bathe.  He licked his paws, both sides of my paw,  turned his head and washed the right side of my face,  back to him,  me,  him.  Every time he went near the incision i gently placed my hand in front of it and he licked me instead.  Leaned his head back on me and feel asleep.  He slept for about 2 hours and now he's awake and back in the freaking cat box,  i GIVE!!!!  The no chew ointment isn't working,  I'm calling the vet in the morning and see what they say.  I'm not happy it with this place, but we have to see this through.  After this i don't think we will be back.  Its feels the same as if we spent the day nursing an infant,  feeling whooped .

❤😽 Mama Jackie and prince Hucksters

When you say cat box, do you mean litter box? Or is it special hiding box? I think it's good for him to have a box that makes him feel secure. My cats like cardboard boxes for that. My vet also does Cry-Baby Eli's check-ups with Eli still in the box.

Huckster really loves you and trusts you. He's having some pain now and isn't feel so secure. But you know all this and you're the best cat mama!

I have a suggestion to just place a warm damp facecloth on Huckster's incision to he feels he's being cleaned.

Deep breathes...

Kerren
