Yes, Tripawds get sore when they overdo it. That is why we highly recommend proper rehabilitation and frequent exercises and stretching. Find plenty of rehab tips for tri-kitties by searching the Tripawds Blogs . An e-book is still in the works. Purrkins and Feta both share excellent tips from their rehab sessions.

We also strongly recommend consulting with a certified rehab vet/tech for a professional evaluation, treatment recommendations and exercises you can do at home to keep your kitty fit and strong. Visit a CCRP or CCRT and the Tripawds Foundation will even pay for your first visit from the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab!

While you wait for additional feedback, use the Advanced Search above to refine your forum search results with specific phrases, and you're sure to find lots of helpful feedback. You can also search all blogs here . Or, consider downloading the Tripawds e-books for fast answers to common concerns and feel free to call the toll-free Tripawds Helpline anytime!

And welcome! Is Kitten your cat's name? Please keep us posted, your future forum posts will not require moderation.

Hello and welcome.

Tell us more about your kitty- how old is she now? Front or back leg? Why the amputation?  And what is her name?

Yes, Tripawds are susceptible to soreness because of their gait but with her being so young and 6 months post op it could also be an injury.  If she lost her leg because of an accident were there maybe some other injuries? Tripawds need to build core strength and to gradually increase activity after surgery to build strength and endurance.

I would want to be sure there wasn't an injury that might need rest or some treatment.  We do have a program here that can compensate you for the first visit with a Rehab Vet, HERE is information on the Reimbursement Program

Tell us more about your little kitten so we can help you get her strong!

Hello and Welcome Ty & Kitten,

Is kitten your kitties name? How old is she and what was the reason for amputation? We are asking to help you and kitten better.

Purrkins is a front leg amputee he is 7 1/2. He lost his left front leg to cancer.

Yes, tripawds get sore and get out of whack just from being a tripawd kitty.

We do core strength exercises at home. Here is a forum we put together Rehab for Kitties

Absolutely look into rehab for kitten Tripawds will even pay for your first visit. They can give you exercises to do at home and evaluate her.

Food puzzles are a great way to engage the core in kitties. Interactive play with a feather toy. Standing up for treats. Using balance pads or sofa cushions.

We provide steps for Purrkins to his favorite places to protect the remaining front leg. Things to consider Kitten will appreciate an easier route going down, and you will take away the stress that one leg can endure.

Purrkins goes for acupuncture and chiropractic as needed. He is at what our Vet calls tune-ups every three months. If you can swing it & kitten does not mind going, I highly recommend it Purrkins does excellent and I can tell by his hop when he needs to be adjusted. We are dialed in right now at every three months.

Purrkins is out of align in the same places every time.

See those red arrows those are where Purrkins is out of whack and what needs to be realigned at our appts, and yes those can cause soreness.

What pain indicators is she giving you if you don't mind me asking?

We want to understand better what you are seeing.

Hugs,
Holly & Purrkins❤️

Thanks sorry I should have searched the site before I posted !  our kitten is named Katia and we found her right after hurricane Katia , she was only about 8 weeks old . Her front right leg was badly damaged but it was not fresh  , it was floppy and uselesss but it didn’t seem bother her much, but it did get in her way. The vet said there was nerve damage and fractures that maybe happened right around birth , she came through fine and is adjusted well other than when she seems to get sore, there are times she doesn’t like being touched on the back  and rear and seems to get cranky about it ,growling etc ... just assumed that was her personality until my husband said maybe she is sore from being 3 legged .. duh  I don’t know why I didn’t realize that before . Ugh .

No apology needed please we understand the worry, and it is easier to post first and not go digging around! And please there is no DUH here we all learn as we go having a three-legged animal is new for most of us. We don't know what we don't know. It is not common knowledge.

I would suggest taking Katia in to see your Vet and have her evaluated to see if they can pinpoint what exactly is causing her pain and go from there if she needs pain management it does not mean she needs meds for life ok. She is clearly telling you something hurts her. Please let us know how things go from here.
Scratches to Katia!
Hugs,
Holly & Purrkins❤️

No worries about posting first!  This is a big site with tons of information and it takes awhile to learn your way around.

And don't worry about not thinking about Tripawd stuff- we were all new to this at one point! Before my Pug Maggie lost her back leg to cancer I don't remember ever seeing a three legged dog.  The important things are that you took her in, took care of her, and are looking to give her the best life!

We would love to see pictures if you have a chance- Here is how you add photos.
