I need you guys' advice.  Using a 2 person camping tent for recovery confinement is a) a perfect solution for us or b) totally naive?  Scout and I live in a 650 square foot studio apartment and the only door that closes is to the bathroom.  The bathroom is great for bathing etc. but with cement floors and no windows it's hardly the place that Scout and I would want to spend the next week or 2 recovering.  I'm lucky to have a very affectionate cat who, on normal days, prefers to be glued to my side whenever I'm home.  Therefor I need a space that we both can fit in for extended periods of time with minimal jumping options.

I have a 2 person tent that has seen better days so if the floor of it it completely soiled with litter, food and water spills it's worth the sacrifice. I've read how others have used xtra large dog crates with success but if Scout can't lay on me most of the day she'll be disappointed.  Plus that's an additional purchase I may not need to make.  Has anyone tried this?  What am I not thinking of that makes this a horrible idea?  If no one talks me out of it I promise to report back on the level of success. 🙂  Thanks!

You wouldn’t be the first to try the tent One-eyed Jack people used a tent.

One-Eyed Jack intro - Surgery in 2 Days

(scroll thru the pictures to see the tent)

I can’t see why it would not work especially if you are in there with her. I am putting myself in your shoes, and It would work with Purrkins if I were in with him otherwise I am not sure?

My not sure part is because it would be dark and enclosed she would wonder where you are and very different to her, she would want out.

I would set the tent up ASAP and let her check it out and see it up and not to frighten her. Let her go in making a big deal about it and show her before what it is about. I think that would help! Get in with her leave it up until you don't need it. Not so weird then.

I think it would work and if you are with her thru recovery.  The drugs should make her want to sleep and her age I would think she will sleep mostly thru recovery I could be wrong.

All kitties are different Purrkins slept and had bouts of energy both. He was 6 then so big difference age wise compared to Scout but in this case, I think age works in your favor as they normally sleep more.

We kept Purrkins in a spare bedroom and gutted the room to just the mattress and sleeping pad for me Purrkins chose the closest to recover in and I slept part way in the closet with Purrkins lol it is not a walk in type closet.

I say save the money use the tent and try it yes! I would not put either of you in the bathroom! NOPE

You can let us know how well it works and share with others ok?

That's my input anywaywinker Hopefully others will chime in with opinions also!

Yes, somebody here did that recently and it worked well for them. I used an extra large dog crate but my situation was totally different. Huck was a very feral young man, lol. The tent worked purrrfect for them. I'll probably give you enough time to curl up with her too. Pretty sure they let their furbaby out for short supervised stretched at a time. I'll look and see if I can find that link for you to decide for yourself.

LOVE it, thank you for sharing Jack's recovery tent!

I do know that if we tried that with Wyatt Ray he would eat his way through it in about five seconds flat.

You guys are seriously the absolute best.   I’m so pleased that Jack’s tent worked out for him and the hot water bottle in the blankets is a great idea I will be stealing for Scout.  I'm feeling better about this.

Holly you’re dead on with the tent not being some weird thing she’s trapped in when she gets home so I’ve set it up for her today and she's hanging out in it on her own!  I am still working on filling it up with cozy blankets so that when she is home from surgery this weekend she'll have several comfy sleeping options to choose from.  It might be fun "camping" with her in the living room.  I'll keep you guys posted on how this pans out but so far confidence is high 🙂

Omc, how adorable! That is plenty big enough for a kitty and her human to cozy up in to.

You're all over this, just keep breathing and stay tuned in.

Scout is a lucky girl to have such wonderful pawrents.

You guys are so amazing.  Knowing we're not alone, having everyone's stories to read, and feeling the overwhelming support has been invaluable.  I'm happy to report day 1 home and the tent is working very well.  She sleeps better and longer when I am inside it with her but all she has to do to meow at me and I crawl back in so she can fall back asleep.
