Hi guys,
Could anybody offer some advice, or their own experiences.
My cat was hit by a car, her back right paw was ran over and is completely gone. Due to her age the vet offered amputation of the entire leg, or putting her to sleep, but this wasn't an option as the vet said, she is generally besides the accident, a very healthy cat, despite her age.
Her surgery was scheduled for today, this morning she was doing a lot better so the vet gave the go ahead on the amputation. However, when she was put under general anesthesia, her blood pressure and her breathing became very erratic and she now has fluid on the lungs.
They are doing further tests on her now to see if they missed anything regrading her general health & then possibly try again with the surgery.
Healing it isnt an option as she is very old and it wont heal, again, due to her age and she possibly may get further infections that would cause bigger issues.
Has anybody else had to deal with this? or could offer any advice?
I bought her 16 years ago when I was 10 after my rabbit died and i needed somthing to cheer me up & i am a huge animal person.
She is my entire life, so anything to offer any advice would be great.
Thanks guys!
Zarah I'm so glad you came here to post. It does sound like your cat is getting some great vet care, and they aren't giving up on her. That is a very good sign that she's got it in her to bounce back.
Car accidents can cause so many internal injuries that aren't caught at first, this isn't too unusual of a situation in that respect. With the care that she is getting she has every chance in the world to overcome this hurdle.
For some inspiration see Jelli's story!
PS What's your kitty's name?
Hi guys!
Thank you for your responses. YES, the vet is amazing. He isn't giving up on her. She is called Bella ♥
They are issuing more heart meds, which they are hoping will keep her regulated throughout surgery and are currently attempting again. fingers crossed they started around 12. I'm hoping to be back with a positive update soon.
Jist catching up on your sweet Bella and want to add my pawsitive energy too as we all cheer for her.

Just wanted to jump on and update! Bellas op was successful thankfully! She is a little fighter, she didn’t want to go anywhere just yet!
vet is still waiting on discharging her due to her breathing not being quite where he would like it just yet, but other than that, she’s fighting.
thank you everybody for your kind words, although my little baby is now a 3 legged munchkin, I know we will do our best to provide her an amazing life despite having a leg missing!
You have a creat Vet team!
And you have a great attitude. Sweet Bella is already a Tripawd RockStar with a lot of spunk and determination!
Thanks for the update.
