Today for Tripawd Tuesday we’re pawtying about the happy recovery of senior dog Barkley, a new amputee diagnosed with adenocarcinoma on his foot pad that would not heal.
Amputation surgery recovery is such a scary time. Some animals do great, some need more help, and every recovery is a little different. While it’s not smart to compare your own Tripawd hero’s recovery with another member, we do like to point out the pawsibilities. Here’s what Barkley’s mom, Tripawds member linda2 recently shared about his recovery.
“I just wanted to rejoice here and hopefully shed hope to tripawd pawrents-to-be! When we made the decision to proceed with amputation for our boy, it was just so scary not knowing what was ahead. We are now 18 days post amp and we couldn’t be more pleased!
It’s such a scary time going into such a major surgery for your babies, but just roll with it and be in the moment, because that is all you really have. You will bond with your baby in a brand new way with this whole experience.
I wish many more success stories to everyone here! Thank you for letting me vent my happiness. It is the BEST decision we could have made for Barkley! A couple of times I actually forgot he had one less leg, if you can believe that, just because his zest for life is so shiny and amazing! “
