Similar to previous Mutts books we have reviewed, Winter Diaries is filled with favorite comic strips from the Mutts collection. This treasury, however, has Earl & Mooch caught in the throes of winter from the first snowflake falling to the first signs of spring.
The usual cast of Mutts characters are all present; Shtinky Puddin’, Sourpuss, and Bip and Bop all share in the joy and jubilee—and the trials and tribulations that winter brings.
Mutts is often beautiful in it’s simplicity, and always witty. And The Winter Diaries does not disappoint.
Guard Dog makes an appearance of course, left outside on chilly days. And that makes Wyatt Ray sad for his favorite character. Mutts never fails, however, with its underlying theme of love and compassion for all animals.
In fact, while The Mutts Winter Diaries is a must read for children of all ages, this book includes a special message and important information for kids regarding the importance of animal welfare and concern for the environment. The “More to Explore” section is filled with tips for making sure winter critters stay warm and fed throughout the cold, snowy months.
