well my tripawd is a kitty so I'm not sure its the same BUT I left her alone after a week and that was more than enough time!  I over babied her as i'm sure we all do!!!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Trying to remember...I think it was on the sixth dayay I finally couldn't afford to miss anymore work. I had someone come by and check on her though.

Every dog is different..

How is Maddie today? And how are you?

It will absolutely happen, patience grasshopper! ;)

I think it was about 10 days out when we left Jerry alone for a couple of hours. I was worried the entire time! But when we got back he was his old self, everything was fine.

If it helps you feel better, keep a few barriers up and lots of kongs around so that Maddie can't get too ambitious while you're away.

Well as a single parent who works, I had to leave Shelby at home alone. She was two / three days in the vet, came home on the weekend and the first day I was gone about 5 hours and she was fine. Then I left her Monday when I went to work but had her in a crate and was probably a nervous wreck all day but she was good when I got home.

It is nerve-wracking but as long as you keep them confined w/limited movement ... they should be fine!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

My Mom came to town and helped with Lily post-op so I didn't have to leave her much while she still had staples. But I do remember going to lunch with my Mom once and feeling absolutely panicked at leaving Lily home without supervision. I think it got easier once the incision had healed but I know I worried a lot about her hitting her stump or falling off the couch or her guest bed. I have a very creative mind when it comes to what can possibly go wrong!

There comes a day when Maddie will be back to her old self and tripawd life is just normal. I don't remember when it was for Lily but it didn't take too long and then I felt absolutely fine leaving her.

Lily the Great Dane (she was actually a lot more than just "Great") joined our family as an ornery puppy on December 20, 2005 and changed our lives forever. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in early May of 2014 and her right rear leg was amputated on May 8, 2014. She sailed through 5 rounds of Carboplatin and 15 weeks of Pallladia. She hopped on 3 legs like she was born to it and continued to fight cancer with grace, valor and an abundant sense of humor...and always a *giant* smile on her face. Lily had two small nodules on her lungs but was brought short by a brain tumor in late December, 2014. Lily earned her wings on December 28, 2014 and we miss her terribly every day. http://lilyt.tripawds.com

My wife has been in town and off work for the week so it took us to day 6 after surgery before we absolutely positively had to leave him at home by himself for a few hours.

Honestly? We could of left him home alone after probably day 3 at least half a day and he would of been fine. But we are worry warts =)

I was fortunate to have a 13 day vacation built into my work schedule when Blaze had his surgery. I did leave him alone for errands, but he slept most of the time. He was confined to the living room with baby gates.

We were lucky to have a retired husband at home.  It takes some time, but as you see improvement and see the confidence return, and the old personality begin to blossom again, you will know it is ok, to leave for a bit.  If you have a really good boarding facility, or pet sitter, or family member that can help out, you will even get to the point you are comfortable going away for a few days.

Take your time getting there. We have all been in your shoes.

I know I'm always late to the conversation, but I too had some anxiety about leaving Harmony home alone. However, her vet pulled me aside and reminded me that she would rest better without my hovering over her all the time and that Harmony would react better once we got her back to her regular routine. That meant leaving her alone while we went to work. And, she did just fine. In fact, she was a little more chipper once we got home after a whole day of sleeping and relaxing. We put Melody outside so she would bother her either. All of this 5 days post-op.

I can honestly say, if the vet hadn't coerced me to do it, I probably would have waited longer. I'm sure Harmony was happy I listened to him! LOL!

Pam

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.
