Mack in pain??

The other night I got home and found Mack in the closet not wanting to get up.  He had not eaten all day or went outside, he just laid there wagging his tail but did not want to get up, running a slight fever and was shivering.  Of course I was freaking out and emailed my vet ASAP, she said to give him pred and antibiotics.  By 2 am he was ready to go out and acting more normal so I took him to work with me where the vet checked him from top to bottom, did an abdominal x-ray (which was clear) checked his temp which had gone back down.

She feels that the cancer is definatly somewhere in his body so we decided to leave him on a low dose of pred:-(  He had been doing pretty good since then but yesterday I got a call from my boyfriend that he was shivering again so I had him to give him a deramaxx just in case.  So far he has not shivered again, I stayed home with him today and he acted fine.

I just hate all of this, he was doing so well since his amputation and now we are seeing him somewhat go down hill:-(

Well, the Prednisone is going to mask any signs of discomfort and you certainly don't want to keep Mack on it long term, so best wishes for figuring out what's going on. Has he been overexerting himself? Please keep us posted.

I'm so sorry to hear about Max.  It's always so heartbreaking to hear when they don't feel well.  If only they could tell us where it hurt!

Just try to remember, it's quality not quantity.  Just love, love, love every minute you are around Max and try to put the cancer out of your head. (not easy, I know)

And hopefully your vet is wrong about the cancer and it's just discomfort.  Let us know, okay?

Warm wishes,

You should not give prednisone with an NSAID like Deramaxx without asking your vet first because together they could ulcerate the stomach.  It is okay to use Tramadol with prednisone.

The vet said it would be ok to give the Deramaxx one time since I had no tramadol on hand, my boyfriend did not have a key to get in to the vet (it was on Sunday)

He started to shiver again last night but otherwise seems to feel ok.

I'm sorry Mack isn't feeling well.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
