Sleep is coming little by little. He's seems to have a 3:30am witching hour where he's in some pain, panting and pacing. He eventually settles himself.

Today his seroma is looking better, thank goodness. I hope it stays on the mend!

The agonizing part right now is we are STILL waiting for the lymph biopsy result and the culture of his "ooze." Perpetual stress is taking its toll on mom and dad:( We're just waiting to exhale and be able to decompress. But unfortunately that can't come until we have a definitive answer on what's going on for the pup! Ughhhblush

Ohhh yeah, it's not easy with everything that goes on during the first two weeks, but just remember, breathe, and whatever that report says, Kota doesn't care, he just wants to feel good and for you to be happy. You can do it!

Oh, I remember the waiting for the cultures. Seemed to take forever. Glad you are getting a bit of rest. I have not used ace on a dog, only horses. It makes them extremely lethargic too. And they are so much larger than a dog. I am sure he was sleepy. I also remember the 3:30 hour. I made a few scrambled eggs at that hour. Hey, if he was hungry, I fed himbig-grinit will continue to get better day by day. I think that gave me Xanax for Ty when he was up so much at night. Maybe, your vet can look into something like that for Kota. Hang in there! Lori and Ty

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Moving right along... sure, each day seems like four days right now. But you'll start to see more frequent glimpses of your Kota's spark. 3 days after Molly's surgery, her incision drained for about 3 days. But slowly, she started to show signs of feeling better. Now, less than 2 months after her amp, she's feeling so well and happy. It's a slow and bumpy road, but so worth it when you see your pup act the way a pup should act again. :)

He's slowly getting there, and happy to say last night was the first night he and the hubby slept through the night! With the exception of me that kept getting up to check if he was ok. The only bad thing now, is he's starting to lick his tshirt. So the dreaded comfy cone of shame is on him today. He's almost 9 days post amp and still oozing. It used to be 2 spots on the incision, now it's just near the seroma . They say it'll subside when he keeps resting so we've been keeping him confined during the day and confined him last night upstairs with us, which I think helped with finally resting at night.

Should the oozing go on this long?way-confused

That's awesome you guys had a good night! Of course he's probably not thrilled about the cone but this is about the times things start getting itchy so it's a good thing you have it on.

As long as the drainage isn't smelly or green, is more clear than bloody, it's probably OK. Sure sounds like it's healing up. Remember, that's a lot of bodily fluid that has to go somewhere so it's just working its way out. Just keep your vet in the loop and I'm sure it will be OK>

Sounds like the recoup is now on a good and steady upward movement. Getting a lot of rest for those first 4 weeks is so important for them. Keep up the good work. I'm sure Mom and Dad are ready to drop by now!

All the best,

Just got the news we were praying for, his lymph node is clear and he's a candidate for the vaccine! We have to bring him in tomorrow. to address the seroma and ooze. He's getting an antibiotic change and we may have to give him a shot for a few days but hey we can deal! It has to be clear before the vaccine starts. Thank you God!!!

So glad to hear the good news!!

Now you can maybe get some sleep, although I always did the "one eye open" sleep with Shooter no longer how long after the amp it was.

Hang in there - rest will come soon!

Luanne & Spirit Shooter

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Hey all! Well yes I'm totally mastering the one eyed sleep! Haha we had to take him to vet today and found out it's not a seroma but an ecoli infection of part of his wound. Ugh. It's just in the environment so it's very easy for them to catch and make have already been in his system for the paw infection. So since it only responds to 2 antibiotics we now have to give him at home injections once a day of the med in addition to cleaning it 2 xs a day . he took it like a champ! It has to be completely healed before he can start any vaccine series. So we are now calling this phase 2. Hell we've come this far!We will get through it! And his CBC came back normal. So that's good!
