Storm has got colitis. It isn't unexpected to be honest, he was really poorly a couple of years ago and his organs started failing, a firm diagnosis wasn't made but it was suspected to have started as a gastro problem and escalated from there.

Yesterday he had blood on his faeces and again this morning. The vet has put him onto some hefty antibiotics as they don't want any bugs absorbed into his bloodstream via his gut. He is fine in himself and still has a good appetite (he lost this last time) so hopefully it won't have any negative effect on his future treatment.

Has anyone else's dog had colitis during chemo?

We did! I felt so bad for Shelby but we got some meds (I can't recall what but they did prescribe something for us) and it didn't impact her treatment at all. I also think I gave her some pure pumpkin to soothe her loose stools. We never had blood though.

So that's what I can offer up ... Good luck!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

No first hand experience...just letting you know we are all right here with you! Darn it...so sorry he has to deal with this! Sounds like your vet is on top of things though, so that's good!

Others will chime in with more specifics.

Hang tight!

Thanks mom2shelby and danny55.

Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. He is still bright with a good appetite and is asking for his walk so I know that he feels well in himself. Good to know that it shouldn't effect his treatment.
