I have a 12 year old Rottie named Sabrina, She was diagnosed with Osterosarcoma in Late December and we elected the amputation (Right Rear) and Elias program, that is a long story but net net she did not qualify. So we went with chemo this was all done at IVO in Phoenix with the amazing support of Dr Hershey and team, I cant say enough great things about them. If your in the Phoenix and are in need of these service I would highly recommend them.

She seemed to recover pretty good and was fairly mobile without assistance for a couple of months. Fast forward to today (around 4 months later), She got kennel cough, then some type of GI issue that were both resolved and now we find ourselves with the fact that her other rear leg completely failed unsure of the cause without a MIR and other tests. We elected not to go down that path because of age and putting her through more extensive treatments / surgeries??

She has bad hips to begin with as most Rotties do. So now we have this amazing dog that cant walk, so we carry her from room to room and outside. He overall heath is fair and we are struggle with how much longer to prolong her life. She is not eating very well but enough and we do have her on pain meds due to we feel she is pain occasionally.

She still likes being put in the pool and hitting her ball around. We are also struggling with the quality of life measurements which she seems to be above but we kind of get the feeling that her spirit is down a little due to the fact we have to carry her. However she is very alert and responds to visitors and other things that normal get her attention.

She is able to go to the bathroom with help but on occasion she is in the grass and cant get out of the way of number 2. We do bath her as needed. I sleep on the floor with her so that I know when she want to go out.

One day we feel like we are selfish and the next we feel she has more to live for. This is an impossible situation. If anyone has any words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated.  Loving guardian!!

Patrick, don't give up hope. Has she been evaluated by a certified canine rehab therapist yet? Rear leg weakness isn't at all uncommon and there are many things you can do for her that don't involve surgeries. You can read about our Wyatt Ray 's experience being treated for rear leg arthritis, here:

Manage Tripawd Arthritis with Supplements, Exercise and Pain Management

You are in a great area for canine rehabilitation therapy. And the Tripawds Foundation may even reimburse you for your first rehab visit if you see a CCRT or CCRP practitioner. So please, get a referral from your family vet (or ask us for one and we can locate a practice for you). It sounds like Sabrina has a lot of spunk and fight left in her, and you're the right person to help her get her life back. You can do it!

If you would be so kind, please post a review in our Veterinary Specialists Forum Topic. Thank you!

Your love for Sabrina  comes shining through, as does your devotion  to her.❤  BTW, I love her name.

Yeah, dittoing Jerry, I hope you can have her evaluated  by a Rehab Specialist.   They can make non invasive  assessments and, hopefully  suggestions  for helping  her get more mobile.

So has the Vet ruled out cruciate injury/torn ligament, etc?  I've  even read that there are some cases where braces/sleeves  can possibly  help.

For a "mature" tripawd, Sabrina seems to still enjoy being Sabrina, even with the mobility  issues. Being alert and engaged is always a good sign.

,deep is posted a d, when you can, we would love to see photos of sweet Sabrina.  She's  very lucky to jave uou as her Guardian😎

Hugs
