Hi, everyone!
Brady continues to do well. He had his second chemo treatment this past Monday and still running around barking his face off and playing lol
I did ask my Oncologist about K9 Immunity Plus. He took a look at ingredients, the company, and so on....he said that he doesn't endorse K9 Immunity Plus as there has been no studies that confirm or deny their effectiveness. He also said that through numerous requests to study the supplement, Aloha medicinals hasn't complied. He said they probably wouldn't HURT a dog to take them, and if I decided to give them to Brady, to wait until he is completed with his chemo as there is no evidence to show that they are in fact safe to give while undergoing chemo. I guess I'm more inclined to listen to my oncologist rather than some website on the internet (Aloha Medicinals).
What are some thoughts? What have your Oncologists said? I had only been giving him one pill a day until I could ask the Doctor. Now I'm not giving them to Brady at all. He is now on Dasuquin which the Oncologist said was perfectly okay...more than okay, in fact.
Thanks, everyone!!! Hopefully you all and your lovely Tripawds are doing well!
Great Question!
Every oncologist has different opinions about supplements. Some are open to using them as long as they're kept in the loop about what a dog/cat is taking, and some believe they don't do any good at all. It's important to come to a mutual agreement about the treatment plan for your own dog so discussing things like this is vital. Good for you!
We have been well acquainted with K9 Immunity since 2008 and were even involved in a clinical trial with our own oncologist. We feel they provided a great quality of life despite lung metastasis but that's just our story; every dog is different and as we've seen here, some pawrents feel the same way we do while others do not.
What it comes down to is your own comfort level and how and where you want to direct your financial efforts toward fighting this cancer. Here are some blog posts that may help you decide:
