The adoption coordinator from Pacific Coast Dog Rescue contacted me today and asked me to see if I could get some information on this amazing site.  One of their adopters contacted her today to tell her that the dog they adopted a few years ago had been diagnosed with bone cancer.  He needs to see what the treatment options are and is looking for an oncologist and/or an orthopedic surgeon in the Los Angeles area to consult with.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I did see something posted from four years ago, but want to see if anyone has more current recommendations.

Thank you,

Carol

Hi Carol,

Where exactly in Los Angeles? It's a big place!

We are originally from SoCal and can vouch for the Veterinary Cancer Group which has offices in L.A. and Tustin (here are VCG posts we did from a while back), and the VCA West Los Angels with the awesome Dr. Chretin leading the team (here are VCA posts we wrote).

Hope this helps.

My Phoebe just had her surgery at Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Irvine.   It's in Orange County, south of Los Angeles proper, not too far,and definitely a commutable distance.    We saw Dr. Gayle Donner (Oncology Surgeon) for the diagnosis, and then Dr. Christopher Eich for the surgery (Orthopedic Surgeon).   Dr. Eich was awesome.   I highly recommend him.    Their address and phone are:

Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital  -   1371 Reynolds Ave., Irvine, CA  92614

(949) 833-9020

I am also a vet tech at a small animal hospital and we send all our referrals down there so I felt extra confident with my choice.

Hi Carol,

I can vouch for the Veterinary Cancer Group of Los Angeles at 9599 Jefferson Blvd
Culver City, CA (310) 558-6120, Dr. Avenelle Turner  was our oncologist and she is kind, thoughtful and brilliant.

Right next door is Advanced Critical Care of Los Angeles, (310) 558-6100 where they did Shelby's amputation and multiple surgeries. Dr. Kim Carey and her associate, Andrea, are among the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever met. Dr. Carey is one of the most sought after orthopedic surgeons in So. Cal.

Being connected by a hallway made these two facilities excellent in their care and treatment of my Shelby. All the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Best of luck! Feel free to use my name or Shelby's name - they will all remember her (and me).

PS - both of these facilities also have satellite offices in the valley (the 818) if that is better for them.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
