The other New England thread turned into an NYC party, so here's a thread aimed at getting something going a little farther north.

My proposal is to meet in Northampton, MA for a weekend afternoon walk with the dogs at what was described the other day, totally unbidden, as "the greatest dog park in the world"  (by someone at the dog park). It is an area open to all dogs (and open to friendly dogs off-leash) which consists of a 5k loop with fields, trees and streams to play in and, typically, other dogs to play with. From there, head over to a different park (dogs welcome, but exclusively on leash) a few miles away to cook some food over a fire.

I'm looking at a weekend late May or mid-June, but and am not inclined to set a date until there is expressed interest.

Here's some evidence of fields, streams, and happy dogs (and my friend's adorable son).

Fields!

Streams!

I'm right in the middle of NYC and N Hampton, so this also sounds great to me!  Heck, Erica could take the train to New Haven and we'll carpool up there, if NYC fails.  I'll still have to leave my pup behind as off leash isn't wise anymore (the off-leash, friendliest dogs that wanna play with him are the scariest!).  That doesn't mean I'm not interested, though.  Jackson will miss out, but let's see if this sticks.

Bravo!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Sounds great! Sorry to hear Jackson can't make it, though. Let's keep things open here and keep developing the idea.

I'm really focused on making this event as welcoming to the dogs as possible. Depending on who else shows interest, maybe we could go straight to the bbq part and Jackson could come. There's nice walks in that park, too. In the winter, it's the absolute best place to walk dogs around here.

Oh that sounds so fun!

We had a great on-leash pawty/gathering in Southern California last December (our Wyatt Ray isn't the best off-leash dog) it's still tons of fun to get together that way too.

I'll put this out there on Twitter, be sure to hop over to our Facebook page & announce it there too so we can get the word out!

Awww, Grace, you're very sweet!  I'd LOVE to bring Jackson.  He loves car rides and to be outside, rolling in the grass, chasing some toys, eating grass, breaking up sticks = ideal for him!  The problem is that when there's an off leash dog that wants to greet him.  I can control Jackson, but without another leash for the other, that's a problem.  So if I bring him, all of us would have to keep our buddies on leashes.  Sorry.  UNLESS someone has a pup totally, completely, utterly uninterested in other dogs.  Those are rare to come by, but they are out there (Jackson's cousin was like that, so they spent weeks together, cohabitating indoors, outsides, etc).  Jackson typically won't go after any dog, unless that dog expresses interest in him.  I'm sure we could make it work!  And by being in a group, if another off-leash dog comes for a visit, we can all help secure that other dog's safety?  Boy, I make J out to be a beast!  Oooops.  Not so, but I'd hate for a friendly, off-leash dog to get injured.

I know weekends are best for most people, but I am also free during the weekday and that may actually be easier.  I am unavailable the weekends of May 24-26 (Mem Day weekend) and May 31-June 1.  After that, my plans are scattered.  I HOPE we can make this work!  It'd be FUN!

I'm a little over an hour west of N Hampton (near Albany, NY), and Steve is a Kitty, but if things worked just right, I would still love to come and walk just to get out of the house. I'm completely dependent on others to drive me as my vertigo continues to stump my doctors, so the days I'm unavailable are really days my fiance is unavailable. He bogged down with schoolwork until late May. We'll be out of town May 31-June 1 and June 12-15.

Please don't schedule around me since I don't have a dog and can't drive myself! I will join you if I can, and won't if I can't!!smiley

I'm about 3 hours away (closer to Syracuse) but I would seriously consider making the drive over there.  Obviously Sebastian can't come but I could bring my dog.  Schedule is tough though...I'll wait and see what date is picked!

Ok, so it sounds like we have at least four people interested at the moment, including two tri-kitty people (one also with a dog), and one dog who prefers partying on-leash.

We have two possible sites (event can include both):
-Northampton Dog Park (5k leash-optional walk)
-Nonotuck Park (on-leash walk, bbq sites)

I just put up a post on the Tripawds FB page about it. Right now, I'm looking at the weekend of May 16-17 (before Mem. Day) or June 21-22. Any preferences? For those who are driving a long way, do you want me to look into local animal-friendly accommodations?

Also, Steve & Co., my bf and I have talked at length about how if we got another cat, we would name it Steve regardless of gender.

If it works out that I could come, I would probably bring my non-tri dog. He has to stay on leash, though, since he is half hound dog and will follow a scent to it's bitter end! He is very social, though. VERY social!!

Again, please don't plan around me. I'll be lucky if I can get out.

Be prepared for lots of questions if you name your girl cat Steve! I have to explain it to everyone!! So now I have to ask, why did you guys pick Steve?

We have a running joke about naming everything Steve regardless of how reasonable it is, which I'm pretty sure was born out of a Flight of the Conchords sketch (Hiphopopotomus vs. Rhymenoceros).

That said, we had a neighborhood cat ask to come in late one night last winter when it was snowing. Figuring he probably wasn't going to get let in at home after midnight, we let him in for the night and he became Steve for the time he was with us, since we had to call him something. He is, incidentally, also an orange kitty. We still see him around sometimes and refer to him as Steve, so he may have occupied the "cat named Steve" spot for us.

Hey!  What if we met on Friday May 16?  I'll be with Jackson in NH in the days prior and on our way down I91 back to CT, we'd be happy to stop, stretch out, and enjoy some BBQ!  Yeah...it's a Friday.  Does that mess with anyone?

To get it started: who can attend on Friday May 16 at noon/1pm in North Hampton, MA?  I suppose we could meet later in the day, too.

I'm sorry, I can't make it on a Friday until late in June. Thank you for (perhaps inadvertently) pointing out my mistake above in offering up the weekend of May 16-17. Looking at the calendar again, I meant May 17-18.

Wow that would be neat to think it would be the same day as the Virginia pawty (6/22 most likely)
