Hi Everyone!  I have a 10, soon to be 11yr old Vizsla, named Cane, my Squishy-mon!  He is only 72 hours post front amp and resting comfortably at home and doing FANTASTIC!!!! I know it will take a little while for his scar to heal and such, but thought I'd reach out and see if we can make some new friends in our area that might like to connect for some play dates down the road!  We live in hilly (non-flooding area) in SE Louisiana;we have 180 acre farm, and access to beach at nearby river & camp (about a mile away)!

Cane has 14 other "housemates" all vizlsas except two English setters!  Many of our dogs are competitive in dog shows and pointing breed field trials.... Vizslas are very active, playful, exceptionally friendly companions!  Once he is healed up some, he will be able to play with any of them. As part of our journey together, we'd like to meet other Tripawds to make friends, build our support network and share our journey!

Any Tripawds in our area that would like to connect?  uh, I guess I should mention, we would be restricted to canines, not felines... not to discriminate, but Cane is an intense hunting dog, and unfortunately he would rather hunt kittys than play with them!

Reaching out with heartheartheart!

Cane's Mom, Carole

Hey Carole - glad you posted, hope you find some nearby Tripawds. I got the chance to meet quite a few members last September in Chicago and it was the greatest time ever! Over Memorial Day weekend, I will be traveling to Virginia to meet a bunch more of my "family I haven't met yet". And if you get the chance to meet Wyatt Ray and his humans, you will have fulfilled the ultimate bucket list item.

Hmmm, I don't remember her ever saying Wisconsin is one of their fave places.....:)

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Hi Y'all!  I am diehard Cheesehead, born & bred, and all our critters are Packer Backers as well! 🙂 Wyatt, spring, summer & fall are the best times for a visit to WI, but you'd be better off coming to LA for the winter months... (oh wait, that's six months long in WI if I remember correctly!)

My dear buddy Cane, known affectionately as Squishy-mon, or just Squishy.... Wow, we have had a very short journey from slight limp to Tripawd, yep only 3 1/2 weeks, but our journey ahead is going to be wonderful and adventurous!  Both Cane & I are honored to have known Bart & Darcy for many years and even competed with them in field trials!  Darcy is one of our strongest supporters and we know darn well, Bart was with Cane every step of the way!

Saturday I picked up after discharge by the surgeon and Onco, and when the tech came in the room with Cane hoppin' in tow - he was "beaming"big-grin I could see Bart standing there proudly by his side! My heart grew 10x in size and I couldn't be more blessed!  heartheartheart

I look forward to finding some local Tripawd friends around here - they gotta be out there somewhere.... But Tripawds, traveling in our area will always be welcomed for a visit, romp in the field, or swim at the river... while Moms & Dads can enjoy a sit on the porch & good south Louisiana eats!  Crawfish season is starting now!!! Yummmmm!!! Side note: Evidently my arteries and stomach are having a disagreement about our crawfish intake, so I have to be their arbitrator. LOL!

I am slowly learning to navigate this wonderful, resource packed site, and offer my greatest appreciation for all the support out there in our world!

Cane is splendid only 96 hours post amp, and I am in touch with Darcy daily!  Before Cane's surgery she told me, "I can't wait for the day I can say  - I told Ya So!!!   After only a few hours home, I send Darcy a message about how blown away I was, by seeing how much Cane can actually do and how strong is body and spirit is......  Darcy responded in kind, "wow, I thought it might take a little longer than this, but I'm gonna say it - I told ya so!!!   These Tripawds are downright AMAZING!!!!

We head to Baton Rouge to see our regular vetty man for a friendly visit and a little sumthin' sumthin' for one of the other boys (oh he is on his last autoimmune therapy injection and will be a STRONG SURVIVOR of pythiosis! (the slang for it is "swamp cancer" but it is NOT a cancer, but survival rate is only <10%) Dr. B wants to see our newest hero and give him check over - I think he just wants to give Squishy a hug!  Dr. B was the one who figured out very quickly that this was no simple soft tissue injury... Straight to the Onco & surgeon, do not pass go, do not collect $200!!! 10 days later Cane became my Tripawd hero!

I will be on the lookout for more Tripawds in Louisiana, but if anyone finds their way down this way, shoot me a message & I would surely love to meet you all!

Carole & Squishy (today is my birthday, and nothing could ever beat the best gift of all - Tripawd Cane - Cancer Free & Pain Free! Now that calls for a pawty!)
