I'm looking forward to more pawties already!  I know we'll get one in the Chicago area too eventually.  And by the way, I learned that three-legged Luna from Madison Mutts got adopted by people in central Illinois.  Hopefully they'll check out this site (I asked the shelter to pass along the info) and maybe we'll have another attendee for a Chicago pawty.

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.

He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

We're looking forward to more pawties, too!  Should we try for one in IL in mid-late June?  Are there dates that would work or wouldn't work for any of you?  Does Buffalo Grove still sound like a good meeting spot?

Gerry - we're still hopeful we'll make it up to Madison on May 30th - it somewhat depends on my daughter's schedule which I won't know until closer to the date.  We'd love to see you again!

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Sundays are better for Gerry and I than Saturdays, if all else is equal, but we can make Saturdays work too.  Gerry says that 'Buffalo Grove' sounds tasty.  I'm excited that Gerry seems cured (paws crossed) of his car anxiety for trips around town.  So we could definitely use the practice for longer trips, such as to an IL pawty!

And ditto from us on seeing you and Holly again!!!

I told my pawrents about the pawty in the town where bison live.  IGerry, I agree that it sounds like a yummy place to visit.  They said I can come and play with all of you any time.  I can't wait to meet all of my new friends.  Either day of the weekend works for us - we would just need a week or so notice to work out our (ok, my pawrents) schedules.

Just a reminder midwesterners that the Madison-area pawty on May 30th at Badger Praire Dog Park in Verona, WI is still on for 10:15 a.m.!  (Weather permitting).

Sorry, guys.  For some reason I haven't been getting the replies emailed to me lately.

I'm going to the doc this Wednesday to see whether or not they want to suck the fluid out from around my lungs (long story), but provided whatever they do isn't too crazy, Max and I will be there on Sunday (along with honorary tripawd, Short Legged Edward).  I'll let you know after the appointment for sure.

Our plan is to attend the Shiba Inu Meetup Saturday and then keep heading north to find a dog-friendly hotel either on the way to Madison or in Madison (depending on how I feel with the drive).  The Shiba meetup is a bit over an hour from me, so I'm not going to turn around and drive back south just to drive north again!

I figure for the Chicago area meetup, we'll see how the Madison one goes and maybe decide then when we want to have the other one.  I'll check with the location when we're there Saturday.

Aww Max, feel better soon. We REALLY hope you don't need to go back into the hospital.

We're so glad to hear you going to try to make it!!! Yeay!!! Good luck this week. Let us know what the doc says.

Saw this article posted on another dog website; looks like most Best Western, Red Roof Inn, and Motel 6's accept pets.  What I took away from the article is to make sure you call the specific hotel directly, don't rely on expedia-type sites or the chain's main website.

Hope your Vet appointment goes well and we get to see you Sunday!

Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.

Ooooo, I could use the benefit of Harley and Gwen's research too.  We're going off to a family reunion later this summer (paws crossed) and will need dog friendly hotels!

Boy oh boy, everypawdy in the midwest seems to be running into some downs, huh?  Even Gerry had to have a little eye surgery last week (no biggy, just a pain in the butt and wallet - he's doing great so far).  Well, if your rebounds coincide with the pawty, then pawesome!!!  But if not, and you have to stay home, you know WE understand.  I can't guarantee any of the UW Vet clinic staff will show, haha, so don't count on that. laughing

So, I think I'll be able to make it Sunday.  I went to the doc and he decided that yes, I do need to have the fluid taken out, but no, he wasn't going to do it today.  His office is supposed to call me and let me know when to go to the hospital to get it done.  So. . . unless they call tomorrow, I'm pretty sure it won't be this week.

Gerry decided recovering from eye surgery wasn't enough after he heard about Max's fluid.  So he has had his third recurrence of blood in his stool.  He could be in for a colonoscopy, but not for a while, and he's still happy as a clam.  We're still good to go to the pawty so far too (knock wood).  Hang in there midwesterners!  Let's all get healthier at the same time too!!!

Aww, poor Gerry!

(it's actually me, Meg, who has the fluidy lung)

My plan is to leave the Shiba meetup around 4 or 5 and drive on  up to Madison on Saturday evening.  Google Maps says it should just take about 2-3 more hours from the Shiba location (which may be the same location for the Chicago area tripawds pawty once I actually get that going).  Do you know the area around the park well?  I'm going to look for a hotel tomorrow, but if there is an area around there that is especially bad or confusing, please let me know!

Oh geez, am I the only one who totally misread that?!  Well, I hope you're feeling okay, Meg, in spite of it all.  Apparently you're the one in sync with the midwestern tripawds - lucky Max that he isn't!

I was going to try to actually video record the ride to the park, so people can see it - haha.  But I don't know if I'll make it in time.  It shouldn't be bad.  I assume it will have to take the Beltline to Verona Rd.  Then you'll take a right onto Maple Grove Rd (at a light) and ann immediate left to the long drive, which will take you straight back to the park, easy to miss.  If you see a Farm and Fleet on your right while still on Verona Rd, you've gone past Maple Grove Rd.  If you'd like i can send you a PM with my cell number so you can call my cell phone if you have any trouble on the day of.  That goes for anybody else who is coming - just let me know!

So how was the pawty?  We're so bummed we had to miss it.  Holly seems to be doing ok - not eating much, but that's her thing after chemo.  Meg - I'm sorry to hear about your lungs.  I had misread that, too - I guess we all think about dog medical stuff first.  And Gerry - I'm sorry to hear about your eye and the blood in your stool.  This must just be a bad week for our tripawd friends (furry and non-furry).  I hope everyone's doing better soon!  And we're hoping to see everyone at the next midwest tripawd pawty!

Hugs,

Holly and Holly's mom

The heat really snuck up on us fast!  My car indicated that it was around 92 when we left.  A sunny, humid day, so mostly the boys drank water and laid under a picnic table together.  I don't think that late in the morning is going to be a wise choice for summer tripawd pawties.  We'll need to push it a couple hours earlier, to be safe, I think.  Or maybe a late evening.  It was still a great time.  I am ready to start planning the next one, dog help me.  I'll probably start a new post regarding that and of course post and blog about the pawty - hopefully by this evening.  The video is stil uploading and I have some still shots to download from my camera as well.
