Boy 'oh boy, what an event! They had 42 people with TRIPAWDS signed in, I bet you there was at least 20 to 25 more. Big TRIPAWDS, Great Pyrenees front leg TRIPAWD to a tiny little white bundle of fur in a dress that arrived in a wagon made for a doll.

We saw 2, tied dyed dogs, 3 dogs with paralyzed rear legs using carts, and at least 2 million Chiwawa's. One that walked on his front legs as he piddled. Lots of Aussies and the fastest front legged TRIPAWD Black Lab we've ever seen. We met dogs from Ukraine, Korea and Mexico. Met some wonderful folks that volunteer for dog and cat rescues, God bless 'em. Met a lady that said the TRIPAWDS web site provided her with lots of support and information when her dog had his amputation. Big dogs, small dogs, short dogs, tall dogs. We met good dogs that were just good old dogs, the Heinz 57 types.

Karen, Ellie and Callie, her new pup. Ralph from the Oaktown Pack, we hadn't seen Ralph for at least a year. Eldene and her dog Diesel, who's really doing well! Really good to see all of them!

We were there from a little before 10 until a bit after 2, talked with folks the ENTIRE time. Everyone we talked to were dog people. Some had recently lost their best friend and felt the need to be there today. People from all over the county who passed by and wanted to know what was going on. Lots of interest in the TRIPAWD website and what was available there. Thanks to Jim and Renee, ton's of new TRIPAWDS Bandana's were seen around the park. Along with the bandana's, buttons and brochures were all handed out. We came home empty handed. Spoke with people who weren't dog owners that were interested again, in the TRIPAWDS website.

The biggest hit of the day way the TRIPAWDS banner/flag. Every time we turned around, selfies were being taken. People would pose in front of banner and asked us to take their picture. At 1PM the parade around the park was being set up, I was ready to grab it as Cindi and I hap hazardly led the parade. Several people told me, don't move that till we take our picture with it!

OR.....the biggest thrill for us, was discovering dog munchies with C.B.D.. Calmed ol' Dusty and Rosy right down!

Parade was a ball, bunch of people and dogs following us around the park accompanied by drum and tambourine players!

Several newspaper photographers and reporters from the San Francisco Chronical, The San Jose Mercury news were there. Several independent news and photographers asked for interviews, I said, please talk to Cindi, I have a habit of saying some stupid and dumb thing's. They all laughed and moved over to Cindi. 3leggeddogpicnic.com, also asked for an interview. Everyone one who asked for photos and interviews were interested in who we were and what we are about were so kind and friendly.

Ralph and the newspaper people took lots of pictures, we didn't have time to even think about photos. I'll check the newspapers tomorrow and see what they have available. Our hosts, Franny from 3leggeddogpicninc.com. were also taking pictures. She was a joy to work with!

We are sunburned, windburned and tired. Dogs slept all the way home. We had a great time meeting amazing dogs and people. We'll be there next year too! (Even if we don't lead the parade!)

NEXT year, the PAWTY will hopefully be MUCH BIGGER. Stay tuned!smiley16

P.S. The girls, Daisy and Blossum, stayed here, and guess what, they didn't miss us at all!

It was a great event, so wonderful to see Jack, Cindi and Ralph (and Dusty and Rosie).  And what a relief on the temperatures... it was 104 when I got home, not even 70 in the City!

I did several interviews although I don't know who they all were, but if someone wants to talk about Tripawds in general and Elly specifically I'm all in icon_lol

The smallest Tri I saw was a tiny Chi rear amp who probably only weighed 3 or 4 pounds.  Lots and lots of dogs of all shapes and sizes.  I think the funniest thing I saw was two rear amp Tri's chasing. The one in the lead had a Tripawds bandanna on for awhile but it fell off when it made a big turn.  The one in pursuit picked up the bandanna and chased the first one back towards their packs with the bandanna in their mouth like a prize!

Unfortunately new girl Callie wasn't as well behaved as I had hoped she would be.  Some of you know Elly has fear issues but with Callie around Elly is emboldened and is a bit snotty toward other dogs.  I wasn't able to talk to too many people because when Callie got close to their dogs she was lunging and barking- which also set Elly off.  I tried putting Callie in Elly's stroller with the top closed which worked to some extent- but then Elly immediately regressed to her fearful and anxious self although she did then greet dogs nicely as she usually does without the influence of the hooligan!  I was hoping Callie had made more progress, she and Elly go to day care once a week and are just fine, and we have completed a 6 week basic skills class with 6 other dogs.  On the bright side, even though she was quite barky she never really lost her mind like she has in the past...to the point that I can't get her attention even putting chicken in front of her nose!

I made the decision to leave early because both dogs were getting overwhelmed (in opposite directions) so we missed the parade.  I had diligently charged all the GoPro batteries and had every intention of getting some pics and video...but I never even got my cell phone out!

But it's always a good day when you can visit with old friends and be around lots and lots of dogs...even from a distance!

It’s a walk in the park for 3-legged dogs and 2-legged owners in San Francisco

At annual picnic and parade, the tri-paw set strut their stuff.

July 16, 2023Updated: July 16, 2023 7:26 p.m.

“We spoil them — that’s what parents do,” explained Nugent as the couple’s small rescue mutts, Henry, Smudge and Lola, mingled among more than three dozen three-leggers at the annual Three-Legged Dog Picnic. “They don’t get a chance to socialize that much.”

Socializing with their fellow canines was just part of the day’s excitement as the triple-legged pets got their parade. They also got abundant treats donated by San Francisco organizations Animal House, Bow Wow Meow and Shipyard Canines. The event seeks to raise awareness for the Tripawds Foundation , a support group for 3-legged dog families in need of rehab and financial assistance.

Thanks for posting the article!  It's a nice piece and the pictures are great.  I've thought about getting Loki a "shark attack survivor" bandana.  I'm not sure she'd find it as funny as I would though...
