It is with a very heavy heart that I update my tripawds friends on Zeke. They did more chest x-rays yesterday and they look worse and the cancer appears to be spreading quickly. They sent him home with a low dose chemo pill that will help prolong his life if he responds well for awhile, but they told us it's really a matter of days to weeks. I was praying it was just pnuemonia, but they said no. We are so heart broken, as today is his 1 month ampuversary, I just thought amputating would give him so much longer, especially since his lungs were clear before the surgery. Thanks everyone for all your support, we really appreciate it. It's now time to spoil our big guy and be happy for each day we have him.
Dhiannon (Zeke's Mom) & Zeke, a 7 year old male Bullmastiff, front left leg amputated on 7-12-2010 due to a joint tumor. Zeke earned his wings on 8-13-2010, we will miss our big boy forever! We love you Zeke!!
I'm soooo sorry to read this update on Zeke So truely awful so soon after amputation..
Big hugs to you both...give him lots of hugs and spoil him rotten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
I'm soooooo sorry 🙁 But at least you know that at this point, you won't be getting any more bad news, so you can relax about that 🙂 No one can predict how fast the cancer will spread - some dogs go a month, some dogs go on for years. Based on the information that you had, you made a pretty awesome decision. His last month has been free from joint tumor pain, and you can't ask for anything better than that! I'll be thinking about you and Zeke's cute face 🙂

Zeke, we are so sorry. Damn cancer! But like Jack's Mom said, you are free of the pain of the nasty tumor and that's the worst. Lung mets, at least for me, weren't painful at all. I didn't even know they were there until they went berzerk after nearly eight month. I hope yours behave for at least that long and longer!
Ok, so now's the time to get out that bucket list and do what you want, let everypawdy spoil you and bask in the glory of knowing that your courage and bravery is helping others as they cope with their cancer too. Eat ICE CREAM! Pizza! Mickey D's! Whatever you want, it's yours!!!
We love you Zeke, and we are here for you OK?

Thanks everyone for your replies! It gives me great comfort to know that people are thinking about our Big Zeke and we are able to get through this because of all the warm thoughts and prayers. Laura, you are right, no more bad news, at least the ups and downs are over. We are spoiling him like crazy, letting him do what he wants and he can have anything he wants! Last night it was a Wendy's cheeseburger and he gobbled it right up. He has been such a brave, strong boy through this all. I just wish we could be as strong as our dogs, they are fearless. Zeke is sending HUGS back to you all and your furry tripawds. Thanks for the support, it makes my heart feel better.

So much bad news lately, we are so sorry to hear about Zeke's update. You've taken such great care of him, so now is the time to really spoil him! Cherish every moment with him, and try to stay "up" for him. Keep us posted.
Sending lots of hugs!

Dhiannon,
I'm so sorry to hear the update about Zeke... I understand about hoping for more time. My Jake ended up having less than 8 weeks post amp... and we were also hoping for much longer. We do our best to help get rid of the painful leg... and then the rest is out of our control. Damn that cancer!!!
You did the best you could for Zeke... and now you just need to spoil and love him for as long as you have left together. Cherish each and every minute...
Sending you and Zeke a big loving hug!!

Hi triplett,
So sorry to hear this news, I understand how hard lung mets can be. We had a dog Bonnie who was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent quite a few rounds of chemo. A month or two after she was deemed "in remission" we found out she had lung mets 🙁 We tried to spoil her like crazy but she refused to eat... It was a hard to see her condition worsen and an even harder decision to put her down. I hope you and Zeke have longer than we did after lung mets appeared. Enjoy the present and try not to worry about the future.
-Chloe's mom
Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Cancer does SUCK, and we all know it. Sending lots of good thoughts to you and Zeke. Remember, you really don't know how much time he has left, so enjoy each moment.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

The bad news does seem to come in waves and today is not a good wave on the tripawds site. You definitely made the best decisions you could possibly have made and Zeke probably knows you love him more than he ever did. Please keep us posted - all the spoiling and any other news.
So sorry to hear this latest news about Zeke. So heartbreaking....hope he responds to this chemo pill and you have him around for awhile so you can spoil him rotten. Give him lots of hugs and kisses for us - what a sweet boy. We'll be keeping our paws crossed for you.
Kami (Mackenzie & Kobe's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
I'm so sorry to hear this. I had really been hoping that Zeke's lungs were clear and it was just the pneumonia giving a false reading. Please know that my heart goes out to you, Zeke and your family. As Kami said, I hope the treatments help to give you some extra time to spoil your big boy for a awhile longer. Give him a big hug for Fortis and I. You will be in our thoughts.
