Hi..

We're still here on the board but also still find that I have a hard time living each day to the fullest with Zak when I get too close to some of the pain & loss we're experiencing fighting this so I don't post very much anymore. Please know I'm here saying prayers.

I wanted to post an update on Zak. We've had several big events recently. We had that birthday last month.. Zak turned 11 on April 24 (which I mentioned last time but we're still celebrating!) & he's looking really good.

Sunday is our 4th month post Dx & our 4 month ampuversary is next week. I'm so incredibly grateful to have this time with him. I struggled so much on whether to amp or not… wondering what would be best for him. Now its hard to imagine life without him if I hadn't. I pray for much more time with him & continued good health.

Last set of REALLY good news is that we had our first set of post amp Xrays & they were CLEAR. Yippee!! So happy! We are also done with chemo. Once again.. a grateful Mom sits here typing at the keyboard.

Thanks to those who have supported us on this crazy & difficult journey.

Yeah!!! Zak- clear xrays - that's the way we like it !

Keep your focus on those good days. Everytime one of those nasty feelings of pain sneaks in, just remember that today Zak is here, and doing good and this is the moment  that will get honored.

We pray too for you for more time with him and continued good health.

Wishing you more great days ahead.

Thanks Seanne! I  can't tell you how many times we've thought of you & your Wrigley. I followed your posts & cried when it was time to let Wrigley move on.

I have a Wrigley (big goofy Golden Rtvr) so I've always had a special plaCe in my heart for you two.

I hope you are doing well & thanks for staying on the board to help the rest of us on our journeys.

All the best~

Jenna,

thank you- we are doing good.Rookie kept us pre occupied after Wrigley's passing. And we have since adopted another dog ( sent I am sure from my angel above). Her name is Willow, she is a one year old shepherd mix, that reminds us a lot of Wrigley. She has been great for Rookie- he loves having someone to run with again, and Willow has captured our hearts as well and is reminding us that life is about the moment- and it is there to enjoy.

I love this site- this is family- so I  am here to stay Smile

Tell your Wrigley we wish him all the best too-

Take care- keep up the good news of clear xrays and great days ahead.

Best wishes for many more happy birthdays and anniversaries! Thanks for the update. Try not to let those silly human emotions get in the way of enjoying life. Just follow Zak's lead and sieze the moment. Big Grin

Great, great news for Zak.  I'm so happy you two are having this time together.  Give Zak a big happy birthday scratch behind the ears, another for the ampuversary, and one more just for being a good boy!

Congratulations to Zak and a job well done to Jenna. You definitely have cause to celebrate and such success stories are great for all who come here for support. Cherry turned 11 the day of her surgery and celebrated her six month of recovery last week. I focus on the quality of life that we have been able to regain for Cherry and not on any capability that she has lost. There will be plenty of time to grieve later and today, like every day, is a cause to celebrate life. I am grateful how much she has been through and her willingness to fight is a testament to her love of her family as it is will all who go down this path.

We will give a special toast to those who have reciently celebrated an anniversary and pray for many more such celebrations to come.

Seanne ~

Congrads on Willow & so happy that Rookie & she are keeping you busy!!  My Wrigley extends his hello back to you guys. he's such a big goof. Things are still going well here down in the southern part of the state with Zak. Super happy about that! Thanks for touching base with us again!

Jerry, Shanna & Christine~

Thanks for all the support!! Zak's still swimming out in the ocean & chasing his ball around the yard. Doing all the fun doggie things. =)

I just did a round of Doxorubicin on him. I didn't think I was going to do anymore but he did so well on the Carboplatin that I wanted to see how the Doxorubicin affected him. I want to zap those evil cells so giving it a try as long as Zak could tolerate it well seemed harmless enough. So far he's doing well on the Doxo but we'll see how it goes.

Anyway..  We're at a little over 4.5 months now and we had a check-up yesterday. My oncologist said he's doing really well so we're hoping for the same things the next time we go in for a checkup. (Fingers crossed & prayers said)

Bob & Cherry~~

Such great news on six months!! WOO HOO!! You're right.. Plenty of time to grieve later. I didn't mean to make it seem like I was greiving Zak now. I'm really NOT.. I celebrate each day with him & give him tons of love every day. It's just, when I read about those who've move on it, I shed tears for them. I can't help it. It's sad & of course, I think about that day it'll be Zak's turn. That's what I meant in my original post.

No time for that now.. Must run & give my boy a big belly rub!!

Thanks for the support everyone~

Hey Rene,

I posted this earlier on the BCD site but wanted to put it here as well.. Really nice job with Lily's video!!  Right now, no plans to be in Colorado but what a great spot to spend the summer.

I had a story I think you'll like… I'm doing some training with a pup & I introduced her Mom to Zak one day when I was dropping off Kaile.

We were talking about the amp & how well they do with 3 legs. She mentioned seeing this really neat story about a dog who lost his leg to cancer & how the parents went on a journey with him. How much she enjoyed the story & I said I'd seen the nature story too. I told her I knew you & Jim from a support group I'm in for cancer pups & what a help its been to me.

It was a really nice moment as we talked about Jerry, Zak & the love we all share with our dogs.

All the best~

Give Zak a big hug and belly rub from us.

Jenna & Zak

If we can use our fingers correctly, you should have passed yet one more monthly ampuversary making it five months for Zak and now seven months for Cherry.  We have fallen a little behind in monitoring the site because of the intermittent WiFi here in the Yellowstone area.  Yes, Cherry was able to celebrate her seven month ampuversary here with Jerry's spirit on our annual month long trip to the Yellowstone.  For the first two weeks, she was in the best of condition since the diagnosis, but we have had a down turn much like the one in early March the last two days.  She WILL recover, but I am always amazed at how long it takes now after the chemo treatments for her immune system to complete a full recovery for what should be a minor issue.

Like you, I often reply back through a curtain of tears when I hear of the loss of one of our TriPawd solders.  They and their owners have fought so bravely in a battle that we all know in the end we can never be totally victorious.  There have been two diagnosed with the same condition at my local vet after Cherry.  For what ever reason, they did not pursue the TriPawd journey and were gone shortly after the diagnosis.  While there is great comfort in the months of quality life we share after diagnosis for those of us who go down this path, it will never totally fill in the canyon that is left when the journey reaches an end.  The typing now is tough through the tears that have started just thinking of this now.  Years ago I included in my web site a page dedicated to those who share the kind of affection that we do for our companions.  In addition to the Rainbow Bridge, it includes a "Sunday" strip that helps me remember that they are not totally gone from our lives for the gift that they have given us will follow forever.  Please visit this page and let us know what you think.  http://home.com.....sthere.htm

We will be looking forward to jointly celebrating Zak's sixth and Cherry's eight month ampuversary together.

Seanne,

It was neat.. The woman is just sweetest person who is unfortunately suffering from moderate Alzheimers so it was nice she remembered seeing the story on Jerry.

Oh & that belly rub was given! :)

Bob & Cherry,

First.. Congrads on 7 months!!  Terrific news! I'm sorry to hear that Cherry's experience a little set back though. What is going on with her? Which chemo drug did you go with?

Yes.. you are correct! The anniversery for Zak's diagnosis is next week & his ampuversary will be the following week. I'm kind of the superstitious type so dont' want to jinx anything by celebrating too soon; but, so far... things are going well with him.

Zak tolerated the new chemo drug well. I'd had him on Carboplatin for 4 rounds & switched to Doxorubicin to hit the cancer from another angle. He did great with the first round & I only hope he does as well for the second round next week.

Big hug to Cherry from Zak!

Take care~

Jenna & Zak
