Hi Jeanne and Brooklyn, welcome. Sorry you have to join our club, what is the reason for amputation? And how old is she? The more details you can share the better we can help.
Check out our What to Expect articles and Jerry’s Required Reading List for tips on the Tripawd life. Our e-books library is also excellent!
How is your home, is it ready with traction on slippery surfaces? Do you have baby gates to block stairs? Also, will you have help watching her for at least a few days?
Fill us in when you can and please consider registering as a member so your future posts won’t need approval. Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks for reply!!!! I'm so worried. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Lungs are clear for now so after much agonizing debate over radiation or amputation. We decided to amputate. Brooklyn is 9 and still full of life. We live in a one story with hardwoods. I have an area ready for her. I'm nervous for the first few days to help her, especially if she is nauseous from heavy drug, going potty and learning her new center as she learns to walk. I've see the wonderful post of these wonderful three legged animals living life, I will read article link above. Any key advice will be much appreciated.
Hi Jeannine! Thanks for registering. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.
Sorry for the osteosarcoma diagnosis. It sounds like Brooklyn has every chance in the world to make a good recovery and go on to have an excellent quality of life. Of course you are nervous about the recovery, everyone is! Right now the best thing you can do is to remember that you will set the tone for how she does. The more pawsitive and upbeat you are, the more she will reflect that right back to you.
Oh, another thing you can do is go out today and get carpet runners for those slippery floors. Get enough to make a path for her so she can easily get around the house. It's one of the best things you can do for her home.
I'm pretty sure she will surprise you with her resiliency! Most dogs bounce back pretty quick, way faster than humans.
Also, did you know we have another Brooklyn who just joined us? Only her name is spelled Brooklynn!
