today I brought Howard to the emergency vet and unfortunately he has lung Mets. The dr was shocked he is breathing so good with how his lungs look. We are devestated but glad we got the additional 5 months post diagnosis. Now we will increase pain pills and steroids and just take it on day at a time and make his end as peaceful as we can

A kick in the gut,  that's  for sure.  Especially  to be seemingly out of the blue like that.  So very sorry that he has mets.

Of course, Howard doesn't  know he has mets and doesn't care!  Ahhh...the bliss of being  a dog, right?

Did the  Vet make any determination if the weakness in the baxk leg was separate from the mets?  Just wondering  if she checked thst avenue out further and if it could still be treated if it's a muscle, disc, etc.  Don't  know  if I'm  making sense.

Now, after you rant and scream and cry and rage...do it some more!  You've  earned the right!

After that, take some deep breaths know that there ARE some things that can be DONE!  And BTW, my Happy Hannah  showed tiredness too (no lameness though).  She was a couch potato  anyway and loved  laying out in the sun.  Fortunately being  tired isn't  painful.  When she did develop changes in her breathing  pattern off and on, prednisone helped a lot!!!   I ALSO  some pain meds periodically. So just know you have a good plan for the ADORABLE  HOWARD!!!

Some have tried Palladia  with some good results, but some have had yucky side effects and stopped it.

Many dogs jave gotten glorious extended  time full of loving  and spoiling and lots of such snuggle while being plied with treats.   Cheeseburgers , pizza, scrambled eggs and bacon, ateak...whatever Howard wants Howard gets!

This piece of crap disease will NOT interfere  with however much time you and Howard have...and we hope it's  a lot of time!!  Of course, days on a calendar  mean nothing  to Howard.   Continue  to love in the moment, in the NOW.  Buy him to toys, get him bones to chew,  and give him lots and lots of tummy rubs

We hereby declare EVERY DAY IS HOWARD DAY!!!   We'd love to see pictures  of all the ways he's being ridiculously  spoiled!

Lots and lots of love to you❤

Howard is also a couch potato so that does help. I have not been able to share pictures. How do I do that? I only have my iPhone or iPad sp no actual computer

The techie gurus can give you more  details on pics.  In the meantime, try this:  adding images

Hang on, the techies understand iphon3s, computers and even my tavlet 😎

Dangit I'm sorry for the bad news. It's a kick in the gut and it feels terrible. As you cope with the situation, remember how the vets says that HOWARD IS A MIRACLE DOG! Oh yes he is!

And not even mets can put an expiration date on his butt. Many dogs live well beyond projections even after metastasis, so try to keep that in mind. I know it's hard not to, but just look at that boy. He's still the same dog, and hopefully the medications will help him feel more comfortable and continue having many good times with his favorite person: YOU!

Did the vet tell you that the Prednisone might make him urinate a lot and get a little restless? If he starts having side effects let the vet know so you can fine-tune the dosage. That has to happen quite often but once you get it right, the pred can really boost quality of life.

Meanwhile, yes we can help you post images if you'd like. We would love to see them! if the adding images link doesn't work, let us know with a Private Message OK?

I just wanted to send thoughts. I know how you are feeling; this is an awful thing to go through. Prayers for peace and comfort - and strength! Howard is a lucky boy to have you.

Just wanted to post a quick update. I will post a longer one when I am able to. We had to say goodbye to Howard on Thursday. He did not bounce back and deserved so much better than the level of discomfort he was in. Our hearts are broken.

And our hearts break with yours and our tears  fall with yours.   Jist did not expect to be reading this tonight...nope, did not expect this so soon at all..

I'm so glad you got extended  quailitu time, to male mpre treasured  memories, but it's  never enough ...never, ever enough.

The void and the break in routine after caring for your Howard all these months will not be easy.  You'll wonder how life can go on and why the world didn't  stop when your world sropped.

You gave Howard the best life anymsog coild ecer want.  And you gave him extended quality  time (approximately  three years in doggy years) so Howard could be Howard.💖

And then you gave him the gift of release when he needed it.  He knew you loved him enough to do that.

Yes, he is free and whole and laying around on the couches of the Angels as they all give him tummy rubs and ear scratches.  And we are broken and sad.

Everyone here can promise you that the happy times will, s,only but surely, push the sadness further and further into the shadows.  His adoravle  personality and happy times will  vring light  into your days.

And Howard WILL make his presence known.  He WILL connect with you and we all want to hear how he does that, okay?

When you can, we wamt to celebrate  more of this incredible Soul named Howard with you.  I know he made you laugh everyday  and we can't  wait to hear how.

Stay connected as you can.  We fell in love with that cutie pie from day one 💖

Surrounding you with  Howard's eternal light
