After visiting Roxy's oncologist today, we decided to switch to a new chemo drug (Vincristine) to target cancer in Roxy's mouth, as the other two did not seem to be controlling the growth of her fibrosarcoma. Since we have already had 5 (of scheduled 6 total) treatments of Carboplatin and Doxorubicin to target her osteosarcoma (and theoretically her fibrosarcoma but it continues to grow rapidly), we are hoping that this one will make a difference for her fibrosarcoma, which seems to be the one that is affecting her quality of life the most (in that it affects her ability to eat) at this point. Hoping this makes a difference.

Anyone have any experience with Vincristine/Cyclophosphamide?

cyclophphosphamide is the generic for cytoxin.  Which was what Sassy was on.  Watch out for UTI.  That is a major side affect of it.  Sally isn't that what Hannah is taking for her metronomics .   Make sure to wear gloves & try to give in the am and get out as many times you can.

Never had experience with Vincristine.

Sends hugs & loves

Thanks guys. She is getting it through IV. They gave her a diuretic with it and mentioned that she should be drinking more and peeing more to flush it out, because if it sits in her bladder it can cause damage to her bladder lining. Will keep an eye on her.

I am reading on various sites and here that cranberry capsules are safe. Is this correct? I may start it as a preventative measure.

Chico was on vincristine iv for five months.  He never had any side effects from it.  He also had an oral chemo drug, but it wasn't the same as yours.  He was on that for 12 months, also with no side effects.

Haven't heard of any side effects from cranberry tablets. My regular vet has recommended it on several different occasion s when kidney/bladder issues have come up. Humans take it all the time too.

Keeping all paws crossed over here! We need an emotican for that!

I have been giving Sassy cranberry since all her problems started.  No side affects from it.  Good preventative :)

Mica, having a plan is good, why the heck not try it? Did the docs say about how long until it shows it's working? I can't help you with any experience for this therapy, but I just want you to know we are sending all the pawsitivity we can gather to your beautiful Roxy. Keep us posted OK?

They said they'd like to try at least two to see if it is making a difference. With this one, it's every 2 weeks instead of three, so hopefully we will see a difference within a month.

Still struggling to eat, even though we got an appetite stimulant from the vet... but we are managing to get a little bit of food in her, at least.

I'm not *as* worried as before because we found out that even though we've been struggling to eat for weeks, she hasn't lost any weight!

That's good to hear about no weight loss...really good to hear. My vet always says that sometimes when we're just gerting them t eat a little bit of food here and there, that it feels like less than it really is sometimes.

Roxy! Have you been sneaking into the fridge at night when everybody's sleeping? Hope so!

Keeping all paws crossed for you!!
