We saw the oncologist this morning and she is recommending vinblastine after Maggie's pathology report came back as a stage 3 mast cell tumor with metastesis into the adjacent lymph node and an MI of 20. Does anyone have experience with this particular chemotherapy drug? I know all dogs react differently but I'd like to get a sense if there is generally good tolerance. I have already heard bad things about Palladia, which is another option.

Hi Kim,
A MI of 20 is high, sorry I was hoping it would come back lower. But you never know, I never got a MI after her surgery (I didn't know to ask back then) and she had cancerous mast cells in the lymph node removed with her leg. Stay postitve!
My Maggie had an alternating treatment of Vinblastine and CCNU (also called Lomustine). You can read about her treatments in her blog, the link is in my signature below. Over all she handled the chemo pretty well. We only needed the anti nausea meds once and only had to postpone one treatment because her WBC count was too low. I think that was after vinblastine. She was also on prednisolone, benadryl and pepcid the entire time she did chemo.
My quad pug Tani also has mast cell cancer- she developed her first tumor in 2007. Palladia was recommended to me when the cancer recurred in 2011 by a couple vets. After research I decided not to try it for Tani. She has a variety of chronic health issues that made me not want to risk it. But many dogs have done just fine on it. You might read through a blog called Rosies Road. Rosie is a quad lab with mast cell cancer who took palladia for several years without issue. The blog was last updated last May with Rosie still doing well, although no longer on palladia.

Kim I don't have experience with this one but I did a search for "vinblastine" and came up with these discussions. Sorry I know it's a lot to sift through but you may find some good insight here from other members through the years.
