Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Will be more than happy to be your tour guide when you visit India.
Just to update Tyson is doing very well. He's pretty much back to his normal self. His wheelchair comes this week so he's going to finally be able to go for his longer walks. The right pain medication really made a world of a difference. Will update a bit more closer to him starting chemo and post on how he does with it.
Tyson starting to be Tyson again is such good news And it gets better and better.
We'll look forward to seeing Tyson in his new chariot enjoying his walks.

Hi all,
Just wanted to post an update, Tyson has been doing quite well since we switched his meds about a month ago. He’s off everything except for the Gabapentin which we’re giving him twice daily (300mg x2, two times a day). We're also giving him a little bit of CBD at night before bed.
We’ve started taking him for longer walks with his wheelchair which initially he wasn’t too fond of it but is getting quite used to it now after a few adjustments.
We decided to go ahead with the chemotherapy and the oncologist recommended 4-6 doses of carboplatin every 3 weeks. We started on his first does about a week ago on the 1st of May. Our oncologist suggested a slightly lower dose for his first dose (250 mg/m2 vs the standard protocol of 300 mg/m2) to see how he does on it. Happy to say he hasn’t shown any major side effects post treatment. He was slightly more lethargic than normal for a day or two but has otherwise been his usual attention loving self.
Will be doing blood work and scans later this week to follow-up.
AlrightyTyson, good news from you.👍 And keep the good news coming.
Sounds like the onco has a good handle on how to best treat Tyson and keep side effects to a bare minimum.

Wow that's really cool! We don't get too many Saints joining us here, I think out of people's reluctance to choose amputation for such a big dog. So when someone does take that leap of faith and they document things here, we really enjoy following along. Thank you for letting us know everything has been going well!
I love that your onco vet took a low key approach to the chemo, and am super happy that he's tolerating it. This is what we all hope for! WHEEE!
Let us know how the follow up goes. We'll be waiting anxiously with our paws and fingers crossed! And give that boy lots of belly rubs and smooches from us too
Hi all,
Sorry it's been a while, wanted to post an update on Tyson.
He just finished his fourth dose of Carboplatin last week. He’s been doing quite well with the chemotherapy for the most part. The scans so far have all been clear and his blood work is fine (some levels are low as expected with chemo). He has not had any severe reactions the first three doses however on the fourth dose last week he was uncomfortable immediately following treatment (for about 2 days). The first night he went to the bathroom three times but no signs of diarrhoea. He was back to normal the third day but developed severe diarrhoea the 5th day with nausea (vomited once that day). On recommendation from the oncologist we took him to the vet that evening and administered an IV with Pantaparazole, Ondansetron, Metronidazole and a B complex. He was back to normal again the next day and has been fine since.
Other than some side effects this last round of chemo he has been doing good. The only other change we’ve noticed is that the spots under his fur have turned from a light brown to very dark since starting on chemotherapy (can only see the spots when shaved, top coat is still light brown). The oncologist initially mentioned we could do 4 to 6 rounds of chemotherapy and we’ve currently completed 4. Given some of the discomfort and side effects with the last treatment we may stop at 4 but will be consulting with the oncologist again next week to evaluate what is best for him.
We’ve been giving him 40mg of Pantoprazole once a day in the morning for his stomach since we started treatment and CBD oil at night (12 drops from a 1500mg strength 30ml bottle). We stopped using the dog mobility wheelchair as he really does not like it (it bumps into a lot of things on his walk). The walks are shorter and we take a break mid walk as he does get more tired but he much prefers to hop around on three legs and is very comfortable doing so despite his size.
Thanks again everyone for all the help and support along the way. Will keep this thread updated along the way. I hope it may be of help to someone in the future.
WOOHOO Tyson! Big Dawgs Rule!
I'm so happy things are going very well. Getting the nausea/GERD under control is a big victory, sounds like your oncologist is really on top of things. I've never heard of it before, good to know that dogs can use it.
What CBD oil are you using? I'm always curious.
Sorry the wheels didn't work out. You know your boy best, kudos to you for being so in tune with his personality
And there ua' have ot folks. Tyson is the response when the question is ask3d of big dogs can be happy on three .. TYSON THE TRIPAWD BIG DAWG ROCKSTAR is the answer!!! Of course, being so well cared for by his hoomans helps a lot.
FWIW The general consensus currently is four rounds of Carboplatin is more or less the standard now. Even ten years ago with my Hapoy Hannah, four is what her Onco suggested. Now it seems to be "proven" to be the best route.versus six.
Thanks so much for the pupdate. The Tyson Fan Club loves to hear from him👍

Thanks everyone, we owe a lot to the tripawds community for helping us get through this. Right from the initial anxiety to getting him on the rights meds post surgery.
The cbd oil we’re using is called Vedic tails which is a brand based out of India. A friend of a friend started it and was immensely helpful getting it to us and advising on dosage and possible interactions with any other medications.
We are hoping we can stop at the 4th dose of carboplatin like you mentioned. Our oncologist in our initial consultation also informed us that there was no significant difference between 4 and 6 so 4 should be more than enough.
And yes giant dogs can do well as tripawds! More than anything that was our biggest apprehension (not just his size but also because of his operation for hip dysplasia as a pup) but we’re so happy to see him doing so well.
Here's a link Jerry posted about CBD to ensure a food quality.

Ohhhh that's right now I remember about the CBD oil you are using, we talked about that way way back.
If you have any photos to share we would love to see and continue celebrating your amazing boy! Here's how adding images works, let us know if you'd like help posting them.
Hello everyone just wanted to post an update on Tyson.
He was doing really well but was gradually getting a bit more tired as the days went by the last two months since stopping chemotherapy. Last week he seemed to be getting a lot more tired than usual and we went to the vet to do a full check up. Unfortunately there has been metastasis to his lungs with a large patch on one of them that hadn’t appeared two months ago. He had a slight fever, an ear infection and a slightly swollen paw when we took him in. The vet prescribed some medication for this and we’ve increased his cbd dose the last few days. He’s currently on:
Gabapentin - 2 tablets x 2
Deriphyllin retard 300 1 1/2 tablets x 2
Pazom D - 1
Pet joint - 2
Ocoxin syrup
Asbrip syrup
Cbd - 25mg twice a day
He has been doing a bit better at home but seems to be getting very tired and needs time to catch his breath every time he goes outside. He is still happy laying around the house but yet more dull than before as it’s much more taxing to move.
We had also reached out to the Canine Cancer Alliance on the EGFR/HER2 Vaccine Study but unfortunately given that we are in India there was nothing we could do in that regard. They were extremely helpful and went beyond what was necessary to try and suggest alternative treatment protocols we could try in India. Our oncologist suggested we could start metronomic chemotherapy along with propanol (propanol was one of the suggested protocols) However given his condition we do not want to start him on any more medication right now.
I fear we do not have much more time and we’re all very anxious about when to make that dreaded call. Reading Jerry’s post on saying goodbye certainly helped. We are glad we got to spend what is now a happy 6 months post surgery. I can’t say that he’s suffering right now but don’t want things to get to a point where he is. The thought of having to say goodbye is almost too much to bear and we hope we can do the right thing by him in the end and pick the right time.
