We are soooooo excited to tell you that today is Zeus' two month ampuversary!  He seems to be recovering from the Pancreatitis and feeling much better today, so that alone is reason to celebrate.

I must say that our vet, a wonderful ortho/general vet, but not an oncologist, was not at all optimistic or encouraging when he delivered the OSA diagnosis to us.  I don't know if he was afraid to offer false hope or maybe he's been burned before by someone that thought their dog didn't live long enough after treatment.  Nonetheless, we were so discouraged that we almost made "the" appointment.  At the last minute our instinct won out and we called to schedule the amputation instead of the "other".  THANK GOD.  We have had two wonderful months with him - feeling good - and we hope for many more!  We are tired, but wouldn't change anything!

Zeus says:  It is his special day and he wants his most favorite food - McDonald's French Fries for everyone!!!

Mom says:  Unfortunately, we don't want to anger the pancreas with french fries, so Zeus gets oatmeal.  But, if someone out there could have a few fries in his honor, that would be great!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Hooray for 2 months! Hooray for going with your gut and not taking him for the 'other' appointment!

I'm giving Rita one of her dehydrated sweet potato "french fry" treats and telling her it's a McD's french fry in Zeus's honor. (Hopefully she won't catch on...)

Lots of belly rubs and butt scritches for Zeus (in lieu of fries...) to celebrate!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Hey Zeus, congratulations on your two month ampuversary!!!

Glad your feeling better on the oatmeal diet too.

We have to pass on the Mickey Ds fries too- both would eat them, but at least one of them would 'return' them and in my bed if he followed his normal practice!

But I will break out the treats I know will stay down, and not green beans either (although both pugs love them).

What a great day Zeus, congratulations!  Don't worry, I'll be the one to make the "french fry sacrifice," but they will be from In-N-Out, not McD's (hope that counts!).  Try to remember that any treat you get that's above and beyond your normal meals still counts as a yummy treat (even if it's oatmeal)!  Enjoy your day!!

Happy ampuversary Zeus!  So happy to see how well he is doing.  That stinks about the french fries.  🙁  Well it looks like Tasha and I will have to take one for the team and have some to celebrate his ampuversary.  Any excuse for McDonald's fries!

Tasha was a German ShepherdBorder Collie mix who was diagnosed with OSA at age 8.  On December 29, 2011 she had her front right leg amputated and received 4 rounds of chemo.  Sadly and suddenly Tasha became sick and we discovered she had liver cancer that had spread to her lung.  After almost 19 months, Tasha earned her wings on July 17, 2013. No regrets and never forgotten.

Oh hey we love oatmeal, we'll have a big ol' bowl for you Zeus! Congrats on this big ampuversary, you are a superstar!

You're not the first person who had a vet that wasn't entirely optimistic. It's definitely hard to demonstrate to people that it's not about the length of the prognosis but the quality of life during the time we have left. And during that time it's all about having a doggone good time!

We're so hoppy for you Zeus, may there be many, many more of these pawesome celebrations way-cool

Thanks everyone!  Zeus loves his red hat!

We used the fast food drive through for french fries when Zeus was a pup and we were trying to convince him that riding in the car was a wonderful thing.  He would never get more than three or four, but they did the job.  You should have seen him the first time we went through the BANK drive through.  He was mortified that we left with nothing more than a slip of paper...

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. Happy Ampuversary, sweet Zeus! Hope you have a GREAT day!

To his great disappointment, Rumbles will also forgo the french fries in your honor. He already had steak this week for his ampuversary and if he has too much people food, he gets a bit rumbley in his tumbley. Ya know what I mean?!

So, banana-yogurt dog cookies at our house today to celebrate your special day! Yay!
