After this weekend's seizure, I brought Eddy to the vet yesterday morning.  He has had trouble getting up and has been running a temperature ever since the seizure Saturday night.  Unfortunately, instead of getting fluids and antibiotics as I was hoping, we were told that Eddy is nearing the end of his journey with us.  They believe his fever is due to his sky rocketing white blood cell count.  He has a skin and eye infection, as well as the chest nodules, and their thoughts are that his body is beginning to fail as he is fighting so hard.  Not the news I wanted to hear!

I brought Eddy home and he is ever-faithfully laying by my side as I type this.  He is still eating and drinking good.  He ate a steak for dinner last night, along with his favorite A/D canned food.  But reality is, his body is giving up.  He's having a harder time getting up to go outside.  That remaining back leg is getting weak.  I just wanted to update all of you who have helped us so much on this five month journey.  I will forever be grateful to this group and to all of you who have been there for me and my special boy!  Please keep my Eddy in your prayers.

Gratefully,

Betsy

Betsy Golden and Angel, Eddy.  Eddy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-23-14, had a left rear amputation 8-07-14, had 3 rounds of carboplatin chemotherapy,  a small lung met was discovered in October, had 2 rounds of doxorubicin, and unfortunately more lung mets were discovered.  Eddy fought cancer valiantly and went to the Rainbow Bridge 1-6-15, at the age of 7 years and 359 days, just six days short of his 8th birthday.   Best Dog, Ever....you will never be forgotten.

Betsy,

My heart is breaking for you. So many of us can relate to what you're going through. You're living in the moment, Eddy's moment. And when our fur-babies take the lead, all we can do is sit on the sidelines and provide support and love. We believe in them and their fighting spirit.

Have you ever heard about the dog laugh? Check out this link: http://www.pets.....lly-laugh/. I like this article because it tells us humans how to "laugh" with (or for) our dog.

Fill your time with Eddy with nothing but treats, spoilage, love and laughter. You know what they say, "Laughter is the best medicine."

Peace be with you and your sweet, sweet Eddy.

Pam

Betsy,

I'm so sorry to hear that Eddy has taken a turn for the worse.  Like you mentioned he's still eating and drinking so that's a positive.  Enjoy and treasure this time with Eddy.  Give him all the steak dinners he can handle and spoil him rotten.

I'll be keeping sweet Eddy and you in my thoughts.

Betsy,
I am sitting here sobbing for you, Eddy, and your family.....we all know how hard this is for you. Eddy brought such joy and happiness into all your lives, enjoy every single moment of your time left together. And YAY !! He had steak for dinner last night ! Spoil him with anything and everything he wants, especially those hugs, belly rubs, and kisses on the nose. Our beloved fur kids burrow themselves very deep within our hearts, and will stay there forever......Please give your sweet boy a hug and kiss on the nose for me.....

{{{Hugs}}} and love, and keeping you in my thoughts,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

Everyone has said things so well.

Eddy is the center of your Universe...always has been, always will be! And he just LOVES that about having you as his humans! Nothing has changed in his Universe and that's what you must remember now more than ever! You are doing an extraordinary job of staying in the present with him. You lpve him so much and that love will give you to strength to continue to enjoy every single moment....with a smile on your face and celebration and joy in your heart with every tail wag he gives you!!

Betsy, I really hesitate to say this...and llease KNOW I'm coming from a loving place and NOT one of intrusion, but would it do any harm to ask the vet ro give him antibiotics and fluids anyway?

Eddy has received love and xompassion from you all his life and nothing can ever change that....and now you're adding a lotnof steak!!! Eddy is a content fella'! I know we always talk about dogs living in the moment, but I guarantee you hesw thinking about his next steak!! And you know what else is good when dogs aren't feeling very well? ICE CREAM!!! Steak and ice cream, cantw beat it!!

The entire community is sending you love, centeredness, and peace...

Betsy,

Very sorry to hear Eddy is doing poorly. My dog would also eat right up to her time which makes it harder but we certainly have to respect when their time has come and give them the dignity to move on. Good luck with your journey, kisses for Eddy.

Betsy,

My heart aches for you ... our stories are too similar ... Just know that Eddy knows how much you love him and you are there for him. I don't have anything else to say ... it's horrible and sad and painful. But I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers... Much love,

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

So sorry to hear about Eddy....  But, I´m with Sally about the antibiotics and fluids in order to keep Eddy as comfortable as possible.  Praying for all of you to have serenity and strength to live this difficult moment.

We have made the decision to send Eddy to heaven this afternoon.  We have an appointment at 4:30pm central time today.  His condition has just worsened with every hour.  Please keep him in your prayers, Tripawd family.

I'm so, so sorry to hear that, Betsy. That is the worst. I know there are no words I can say to ease the pain and sadness you're feeling in saying goodbye to Eddy.

Lily will be one of the new kids waiting there to welcome Eddy and maybe they can learn the ropes together. My prayers and thoughts are with your whole family.

Lily the Great Dane (she was actually a lot more than just "Great") joined our family as an ornery puppy on December 20, 2005 and changed our lives forever. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in early May of 2014 and her right rear leg was amputated on May 8, 2014. She sailed through 5 rounds of Carboplatin and 15 weeks of Pallladia. She hopped on 3 legs like she was born to it and continued to fight cancer with grace, valor and an abundant sense of humor...and always a *giant* smile on her face. Lily had two small nodules on her lungs but was brought short by a brain tumor in late December, 2014. Lily earned her wings on December 28, 2014 and we miss her terribly every day. http://lilyt.tripawds.com

I am so sorry. Its never ever an easy decision, but its truly the last act of love we can give them. I know the tripawds angel pact welcomed him home. Sending you lots of hugs.
