Heather that's terrific news! One hurdle down and just a bit of recovery to go. With your great attitude you and Toddy will have this behind you sooner than you think. Keep that scientific brain of yours under control as best you can right now and you'll do fine.

I'm so glad to hear everything went well! Hoping Toddy has a restful sleep, and that his homecoming tomorrow goes smoothly!

I loved life as a tripawd for over three years following right forelimb amputation due to an aggressive and recurrent hemangiopericytoma. I reclaimed my place among the gods and valkyries in Valhalla on November 11th, 2020. My parents miss me tremendously, but I know they'll keep me in their hearts forever... and don't worry, I've approved my mom's use of my Tripawds account.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Toddy. I think he'll be much happier with that bad leg out of the way.

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

Toddy is HOME!!!! I think he licked my face for about 10 minutes once we got settled.❤️ 🐶 He hopped on over to his brother's crate and let him check out his incision and his lovely cone . (Smoochie is his brother who was also a cocker spaniel rescue but he is Toddy's "mini me " at 14 lbs).

His vet wanted him to stay and extra night because of the surgery and morphine sent him into extreme doggie la la land. He switched him over to oral medication and he is doing really good. He was sent home with the cone of shame .... (His vet said to keep the cone on and I forgot to ask about the t-shirt.  Is it okay to switch.? He is doing pretty good with just the 3 legs but He does get tired very easily.  He will just stand there or sit down until he is ready to move again.

He seems a little restless at times. I assume this is normal....  Just happy to have my sweet baby back home. We are living for each moment and taking it day by day! ❤️🐶❤️🐶

YAY! Glad the pack is back together. His recovery sounds pretty typical. If the restlessness turns to anxiousness (non-stop pacing, panting, whining), let your vet know, his medication may need adjusting. As for the cone versus t-shirt. I would leave the cone on for now to play it safe. Dogs can get through a t-shirt in no time (at least most can and will) and you really dont' want those stitches/staples to be bothered by his slobbery tongue!

Sounds like he is getting great care. Now you take care of yourself too OK? Don't forget to rest.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Toddy.

I put the cone on Rocky if I left the house, but otherwise just went with the T-shirt. He did try to lick through the shirt a few times though.

Welcome home Toddy!

Homer's first week or so was tough as the surgery is a big procedure.   After that things improved steadily and he continues to be happy Homer 2.0!

Thanks everyone!!!

Today marks one week since Toddy's surgery and everyday we see our boy coming back.  We are just resting, resting, short potty brakes (despite him wanting to sniff and chase everything) and resting again.  He is very content resting which helps! His favorite spot is on the couch .  He stands at the couch until I put him up there and stays until I get him down.  He is only on one pain medication along with his antibiotic and is doing well.  We go back monday to get his stitches out.  We should find out this week if we are dealing with cancer. He does have to wear the e-collar and shirt .....he doesn't want to leave stuff alone.

Thank you for all of the encouragement, stories of how your pups are doing and guidance!  We are taking it day to day and it is truly amazing how well they adjust!

Christie and Obie,

We are keeping you and Obie both in our thoughts and prayers!  It really does get better!  This site has been such a wonderful support.  The key for Toddy has truly rest, rest, and more rest.  We just keep taking it day by day.  It has been amazing to see him adjust and just get better every day.  He has done well with having to rest and not getting to play.  It is definitely a learning curve and we did question his progress.  Toddy is not concerned with his leg not being there, he is just trying to come up with new ways to get into stuff. rasberry  Keep us posted on Obie's progress and let us know if you need anything!!

I'm concerned about Toddy....Not sure if this is normal..

He had his stitches out Monday and did way better than expected, he squealed like a pig when they picked him up but didn't make a peep when they took the stitches out. (He HATES any vetoh-my).  We had some friends come over Tuesday and Toddy took off running to the front door to greet them.  He couldn't stop and fell down to the floor and scared the life out of me and himself.  I had him rest after the incident and watched him.  He acted a little uncomfortable and I did give him his tramadol.  He has been eating well and books it to his crate when it is time to eat way-cool, going potty but doesn't want to stay out for long, and now he just sleeps, sleeps, sleeps.....  He just seems to not have any energy, well except for treats ( but I don't want him to tarnish his boyish figure)  The boys have another friend over and he doesn't seem excited at all. He is not restless, no panting, jumps up on the couch and sleeping soundly.  Loving getting rubs and cuddling with everyone. I don't know if I should call the vet or give him more time to rest.  He is walking/hopping around fine.  We will be 3 weeks post op next Tuesday.  He has always been pretty energetic even when on all of his pain meds prior to surgery and seemed to be more active tuesday before the fall.

TODDY!   You silly boh!  No running around and falling okay??

It's very possible he has tweaked a muscle.  Rub up and down back, his spine, his neck and shoulders.  Does he show any tenderness or tighten up?   If he was showing more e ergy right before the fall, and not so much afterwards, he could, indeed, be a sprain krf some sort.

Also, I know many here say their dogs really perked up after stitches were out.  Not the czse with my Happy Hannah...took three weeks before I could finally say I did this FOR her and not TO her!

Check with yiyr Vet, vut maybe Rimadyl may help.
