Personally I'm now going to root for atypical Addison's disease! Three cheers for Prednisone, too, because it would be wonderful if something so small and cheap could help. I realize our dogs don't live forever, but I still believe in miracles.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Dr Pam, we are starting prednisone and tramadol tomorrow. She had such a bad experience with tramadol after her amp that I went with Rimadyl, but I really want her to try the Pred. As for her symptoms, over the weekend she started staring blankly at the wall, bumping into things, forgetting where things were, not seeming to process directions, standing there and barking at imaginary things, acting very withdrawn and turning away when I tried to pet her, no longer sleeping on the couch, pulling away when I touch her head, wandering off into the weeds, rubbing her head and head butting things, lack of appetite, very anti social with a house full of guests, extreme weight loss, heart racing, shaking, whining, etc. Then at the vet she actually tried to bite the tech when they were doing her xrays. No seizures as far as I know, but she has for several months on and off had several episodes of frantically "running" in her sleep which I wonder if they were seizures.
I am happy to say that today was a good day. It just killed me to have to be off at work all day, but when I got home she got right up to greet me, brought me her stuffy, and started making demands fir dinner, treats, water, outside, etc. Oh yes, that's another symptom, she's been very thirsty. Her weight has gone from 132 to 116 in about 3-4 months with no change in her diet. Anyway, It was wonderful to see her happy, tail wagging. She's not herself but the quality of life is still very much there.
Thank you all for your kind words and support for the Queen. I have made arrangements to get some pictures taken of her this weekend, something I have been putting off way too long. Want to capture the "spirit of Nova" while I still can.

It's great to hear she had a good day today. Cancer is full of so many ups and downs, I'm sorry you're on that ride again.
Let's keep our paws crossed for many more "ups" these days.
Love you Nova!

Good girl, Nova. Or Good Majesty, I should probably say. More pawsitive thoughts and prayers are coming your pack's way!
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
Sue,
After reading more carefully your original posting and taking a cue from Dr Pam, you should at least look at "atypical Addison's Disease". At least there is a definitive test that can be done and you can have the results in less than 24 hr. Great Danes and Standard Poodles have a much greater propensity for Addison's Disease and you can read about it at http://www.addi.....ndogs.com/. They even have a support group! Like we need another support group huh Sue? Also, if it does turn out to be Addision's we can share stories once again! Yes, my Standard Poodle rescue was positively diagnosed with "atypical Addison's Diease" just slightly less than two weeks ago.
Keep us posted, and once more all our love and positive thoughts!

Hi Sue & Nova,
We're new here, but I did want to add my deepest sympathies to this new challenge in life. I'm so sorry to hear that your poor girl, who has already been through so much, has yet another thing to deal with. I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can (I do sincerely hope that this isn't anything bad as is expected!) and I'm so glad you at least still have good days together! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Things are still going very well with the Queen. I hope and pray that the doctor was wrong. She is acting like herself again. I just updated her blog with some really nice pictures of her enjoying the outdoors this afternoon.

Sue!!!
What is happening in the diagnosis front with Nova? Have you done the definitive test for Addision's?
Pam is so very right about the pred. Chloe's specialist put her on a healthy dose after her diagnosis of "atypical Addison's" and backed it down every five days. There was a minor set-back after the first reduction, but we have been in a steady spiral downward after the second set-back. It was so bad this morning that I reversed this last reduction. If Nova is facing this "atypical Addison's", you will know what you are up against and can effectively monitor the condition. We head back to our specialist on Wed AM and will be looking at a better dose situation.
Keep us posted and all our positive thoughts!

Bob,
Nova has been on the Prednisone as of late in the week. We had to wait a day or so after taking her off Rimadyl. My plan is to go back sometime this week and ask about Addison's disease as well as a few other things. Her symptoms of confusion seemed to go away (this was before we started the Pred). I am hoping the doctor was wrong. There is another doctor in my vet office that is more familiar with Nova's situation that I want to speak with this week. She is not in until Tuesday.
