I made an appt next Thursday with an oncologist to have staples removed and discuss further treatment. We are very lucky that we have the "Mayo Clinic" for dogs about a 10 minute drive away here in Atlanta. For that, I am very thankful. Sunny is gradually being more himself, with periods of tiredness. I suspect I'm taking it a lot harder than him. Thanks for all your support and comments.
Trouble logging in - forgot password, got a new one, copy and pasted it and it wouldn't work. I must've been doing something wrong.
Oh good to hear. The tiredness is to be expected, it's a big surgery. And you are so right, it is a LOT harder for the humans than it is for the dogs.
Glad you got logged in. How did you get in if the new password didn't work? Just curious.

You almost got it. I just fixed the size so everyone can see how happy Khaki looks!
For future reference, here's detailed instructions for embedding photos in forum posts. We'll be making this process much easier soon. Stay tuned for details.

Khaki is my "board name". My dog is Sunny. I've been on message boards for years so somewhat familiar. I hang with Sweet Potato Queens (have to do with a series of books). Khaki is my queen name. My name is actually Betsy. Thanks for fixing the picture so everyone can see how good Sunny looked last night. Today, he's just been laying around. I figure good days and bad days.
Sunny is a beauty. She look so happy in her white shirt. Trouble had one just like it to protect her incision.

D'oh! My bad.
There will certainly be ups and downs throughout this recovery period, but if you ask Sunny I bet he'd say every day is a great day now that the nasty tumor is gone. Jerry taught us that.

Sunny Dawg - you're looking good pal!!! Take it easy and make sure you get some good rest...You too Betsy - rest for us pawrents during this really emotional and traumatic time is critical - remember that us humans get bogged down by all the emotions of it all and our fur kids are the ones that actually have the better handle on it - live for today and when tired, rest and when energized, play. So simple - I wish we could really comprehend and mirror our lives around that profound philosophy of theirs.
Please keep us posted on Sunny's progress and we're here for you along the way as you make some difficult decisions. Just remember to live in the moment - it's hard, but if you can get there during this difficult time, it's a peaceful place to be during a chaotic time.
Much love and many prayers.

Thanks y'all! Sunny is doing better every day! He is off of pain meds, and seems to be fine. He gets his staples out Thursday and I'm sure he'll feel way more better after that. They told me to avoid steps and he snuck down the long flight of back deck steps yesterday without any problem and just was so happy to be surveying "his" yard!
Glad to hear Sunny is doing well!
We lived in a two-story home during Jerry's amputation and found that the Ruff Wear harness was a big help for helping go up and down stairs.

I ordered the Ruff Wear harness but am afraid it'll put too much pressure on his incision. He has been going up and down the stairs a few times. He's doing way more better. I'm about to let him start trying to navigate the dog door and back steps on his own.
Thanks for purchasing a harness Betsy!
We do recommend not using the harness until the surgery has completely healed and stitches or staples are removed. While we have heard of no specific cases where any harness has hampered healing, we also believe direct pressure from the straps might irritate the wound. Please consult your veterinarian with any specific concerns.
You can use a soft towel slung under the belly if additional support is required in the meantime. A reusable canvas shopping bag slit down the sides also makes a handy temporary sling.

He's been going through the dog door and up and down the stairs. He is SO happy because he can access his backyard where he doesn't have to worry about other animals. I did see a scrape on his incision but it wasn't too bad. I suspect he took a spill but maybe it'll be a good lesson for him? Breaks my heart. He is SO much better. Y'all weren't kidding that the first two weeks were the hardest. He starts chemo tomorrow.10
Hmmm, wonder how the scrape happened? Crazy Tripawds don't know their limits. Inspiring and scary at the same time!
Slowly but steadily, our tripawd kids do get better. Hang in there. Good luck with chemo tomorrow, please let us know how it goes.
