So far Louie has had 4 out of his 5 treatments with only 1 left to go. He has been taking it all extremely well and his chest x ray taken about a week ago came back clear. Personally, id feel better going through and doing the last one, but I had a talk with my grandmother (who usually gives me good advice on things) about my financial issues. Ive been putting everything on my credit cards and im still young and do not make much. She suggested to maybe not do his last one since he seems to be doing so well. Hes eating a much better diet and is seeing a holistic vet for ozone therapy and getting homepathics. Since his amputation and everything else, he is doing amazing in my opinion and is his normal happy self. Of course i will consult his vet about this and im sure his oncologist will reccomend against it of course, so im just wondering has anyone gone through this same thing with considering stopping chemo early or know any research about this?  Thank you.

Louie is so fortunate to be surrounded by such wise, caring people!

It's a tough decision, but always remember that if the cost will make your life more stressful because you have bills hanging over you, that is not good medicine for Louie. He truly wants you to be happy, and if you're not happy, the pack isn't happy. So yes, talk to your oncologist also, because they will always put Louie's overall quality of life at the forefront, and you are part of that equation.

Keep us posted and keep up the great care of your sweet boy. YAY that he's doing so well!

So glad to hear how well your sweet boy is doing!  Louie is his happy self and that is such good news!

First of all, there is no right or wrong, okay?  Many members here don't  do chemo for many reasons and financial  is certainly  one of them.

My Happy Hannah had four Carboplatin  treat, emts.  It was what her Oncologist  recommended.   She was a graduate from Cornell and said that four  was what she was taught.

Like you.finances  were an issue.  I knew from the site that some did more treatments.  The range suggested by Oncos  varies from four, to five, to six.You will see some dogs on here go with four; some go with five;  some go with six.  Again, no right or wrong.

Her Onco said that as long as you could do four, anything else would just be extra.

I felt perfectly  com7 stopping at four and let Happy Hannah just get on with being her happu self😊  No regrets at all.

So yes, of course  talk with your Onco.

Hugs

Thanks so much guys! I feel a lot better after reading what you guys said. I really wish i had found this site whenever we first got the diagnosis because it so reassuring to know others who have gone through the same thing. 🙂 i really appreciate your kind words and advice bc this is tough for me. But after thinking about it some i think i have decided to not go through with another one. It really would take a huge weight off my shoulders and it would be nice for him to be chemo free finally. I will make a call to his oncologist tomorrow and after that we shall celebrate no more chemo!

Good job!  I can "hear" the relief in your voice!!!

So how shall we celebrate  Louie bring chemo free and free of poking and prodding?? Perhaps a scoop of ice cream followed  by a chesseburger?  We would love to see pictures!  Here's  a link to help:  adding images

We're glad you found us too!

And yes please do share photos of Louie. What a lucky dawg to have you.

Spoke to his oncologist today and she was super understanding and she said she thought he would be fine with just the four. Soo happy😊. Tomorrow we are going to the pet store for a cake (or we may do steak) and some treats, since hes been on his diet, we will allow a cheat day just this once. 😉

Well that’s terrific! Oncologists always have quality of life as a priority, you’ve got a great one. May I ask who it is? Be sure to list her in our Veterinary Specialists Referrals Discussion Forum.

Yes I can see the pics! They are adorable pups! Louie and Suki make a great pair.

Can’t wait for the celebration!

Hi, just saw your post. LOUIE is adorable. I know what you mean regarding finances. I am not young, but I am single, and have two other dogs to think about. You can only do what you can do.

Brownie has also done ozone therapy, and did very well with it.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!
