Personally I would want to find a product that has been legitmately tested for the THC levels before I give it to a pet.

Agree 110% Kerren. Thanks for the great info.

Thanks you guys for all of the continued encouragement! Over all Stewie’s demeanour is better and he seems to be moving better. We shall hold status quo...

Kerren absolutly brilliant of you to provide these links. I will copy and forward them to Paul so that we can peruse the info together and see what we can do! Really appreciate the information!! Of course we will be sure to do our homework before giving it to them. If we can’t be sure, we won’t give it to them.

His Giant Bear Paws are certainly his pride and joy! He is overdue for a paw trim!
All the very best to you guys!

Good stuff Kerren!!

Okay, what am I missing here??    Super Stu is all better now and handling his Hegies like a champ!  Eating, drinking, pooping, peeing,...all good.   His shoulder/neck/back (or whatever was causing him distress and painful movements), seemingly recovering nicely with extended rest and Metacam.

What was the initial reason you were checking into CBD to begin with.....and now that he's vetter,  do you still feel it's needed?  Is it something you want tp pursue as a "preventive",'or as an actual "treatment" for something, or something you just want to try "in general; to keep any further issues at bay, etc?    I'm asking out. of SINCERE  curiosity and not being a smarty pants!   I'm all about pursuing anything that extends quality time with our pets and enhances their well being!

Soooo glad ro see Stewie being Stewie 🙂 🙂

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Stu Butt and family,

There was an article on CBC radio about a woman who got CBC oil for her dog on Vancouver Island:

http://www.cbc......-1.4032286

hi Kerren

this was a most interesting show to listen to... I feel like i am in the same boat as this lady on the Island. She is very brave for speaking up in my mind! If i am unable to get some answers in Vernon, i am going to be looking these people up and making some phone calls to them.

Here are the authorized producers of medicinal cannabis authorized by Health Canada:

https://www.can.....poses.html

I am off to the big city next week and i have at least 5 dispensary’s that i am going to check out.

Here is some CBD oil available for sale: https://canntru.....oil-drops/

I am going to be putting some questions together for these places, so that i can get the most out of the places that i am going to and calling them before we go.

I realize you may need a medical marijuana card but anyone can get one it seems and the I believe the woman in the CBC program used her husband's card for her pet. It seems that many young adults have the cards, so I'm sure you, as a wiser, older adult can get one. laughing

yeah, Im lauging with you Kerren! Wiser and older... hehehe! Definitely older, not always so wise!!! When you go into the dispensary’s they make you sign your life away, but they don’t all need a medical Marijuana card. A friend of mine went into a place last month and she was able to get edibles with no questions asked.

My hope is that the regulations in Canada will change things this year! Especially for the testing of CBD for animals! Dr. Laurie was fully into the CBD treatment but she was not legally able to prescribe it for us!

Personally I would want to find a product that has been legitmately tested for the THC levels before I give it to a pet.

i agree 110% too Kerren! I will be making some phone calls this weeks to see how much these dispensary’s know about their product and if they have anything available with just the CBD oil and no THC! It would surprise me greatly if they have never had pawrents asking these questions before me, in regards to their pets comfort.

Stewie looks wonderful by the way. He looks so sweet and cuddlie.

Thank you so much Kerren. Paul and i so very much appreciate the links that you gave us! Again i say that the lady in the CBC radio interview is so very brave for speaking out like she has and i can only hope that if we all start asking that something will change!!!! It is kind of like the OSC vaccination trials... why is Canada not involved in this amazing event!!!

Stewie says thank you as well Kerren. He is going to be attending an in-home doggy spa treatment and getting a foot trim and a brushing today. Make him look handsome for his Easter dinner! Turkey for dinner, he Ruvs Turkey!!

Hi my Super Sally

you’re not missing anything my lovey, Stewie is doing better! But he is still not 100% of our old ‘new’ Stu Butt! He still doesn’t have 100% of his energy levels back. He doesn’t always want to get up and come to the door to see if he is going anywhere with me, when i take off for a while... Yes, he is eating all of his kibble, he is taking all of his treats, eating his Bully Sticks like there was no tomorrow but when he plays with his Hedgies, it isn’t for long... he does a couple of runs with it and a few tugs and then he is done!

For anyone else to look at him, he looks perfectly fine!! Me, myself and i see that he isn’t what he was a couple of months ago... He isn’t showing any signs of discomfort anymore, but i don’t want to take the chance of him slipping back right now. So he is still on the Metacam in the morning and the Gaba at night. It has been a week since his set back, so tonight i will take him off the Gaba and see how he does....

Is he doing better because of the meds or because he is just doing better?? My guess is a little bit of both!

Sally there are a couple of reasons that we want to check into the CBD oil... Our old cat Spikey turns 19 on April 4th. He is on Metacam also for his old achy bones. Dr. Laurie had given us a prescription for him and for obvious reasons, we would like to get him off the Metacam and onto the CBD oil. The Metacam is absolutely not good for Spikey, but it is the best solution for him at this time...

The second reason is for Stewie of course... We also want him off the Metacam if we can help it in the future. Or to use it in conjunction when we need it the most. We are looking to maintain his health the best way we can... if CBD oil is going to hold things off for us, then we are willing to try it! Pain relief is first and foremost for us, but preventative usage is also in the back of our minds... We have a ton of questions Sally and we intend to get them all answered!

Soooo glad ro see Stewie being Stewie 🙂 🙂

Much Ruv to you Sally and thanks for your questions. It makes us all re-evaluate things right?

Thanks again to all of you for your support and care. For us Canadian’s this is all a new ‘taboo’ subject for most of us and i think it will continue this way for a while... We are counting on the rest of the world to show Canada what they are missing out on with the health benefits of CBD oil to all, not just the hoomans but our pets too!

From a grateful Allen Clan,

Petra, Super Stewie and his chilly Kittens

Hi guys

i want to update you all with how Stewie and Spikey are doing and what our findings were in regards to the CBD oil for them both...

Stewie has been off his Metacam for at least a week now. He is moving around a lot better, but doesn’t want to go too far... i have been taking him to his spa treatments every week, where Miss Leslie performs her Ortho-Bionomy on him, to help get things back into their proper place, plus she did some laser therapy on his liver and also on a little bug bite that was ‘bugging’ him. She also noted that his undercoat is non-existent (yay, it’s not just me that see’s it!!) and it is probably due to the chemo still running its course through his body. Does this make sense to anyone out there? Is his immune system still compromised?

As of right now, he is taking Milk Thistle everyday. He loves it ‘cause he gets it in a little bit of kitty food and it makes him feel like his is part of the mob at feeding time!! Oh such madness with 4 catssss in the house!!!!

As for the CBD oil... we found an excellent place!!! They make their own product, knowing EXACTLY what goes into it and then they send each back out for individual testing, knowing exactly what is still in it. They have records of every single batch that they have sent out and anyone can look at them. We talked to them about our situation with both Stewie and Spike and they were totally sympathetic to our needs. Telling us that they have had great success with pets and their pawrents.

We have been told and we are going to do more research on this one, that CBD and THC work together on cancer cells. One breaks the cancer cell down (THC) and one to build up good cells.(CBD) I don’t completely understand it and hence the reason for more education... for now, we are going to wait to give it to Stu till we find out more... we may just start him on the CBD on a low dose...

So, here we are with some CBD oil for our old man Spikey... we are using the CBD for its pain and anti-inflammatory benefits for him. Spke has been on the oil for a week now and we can honestly say that it is benefiting him hugely! Within the first 24 hours we saw a difference in his mobility and his whole demeaner has changed over the week! We are using minimal dosages right now and it appears to be helping him immensely. He is with us all in the living room area far more often and his eyes are more alert too. We have taken him off of the Metacam, i am happy to say!

This picture was recently, after all of Stewie’s celebrations... He was gifted a new Amurican Hedgie from Holly and all of the other Hedgies are jealous of his big nose... His Canadian Hedgies are all tiny nosed! I bet Amurican Hedgie’s smells better!!!

And here’s Spikey... (with a Yeowwwed out Chester!)

Thank you all for you concern and especially to Kerren for all of the extra information that you were able to lead us forward with!! We feel really comfortable with the dispensary that we are working with, not all of them are what you would call ‘food grade’!!!

Information is power and power enable us to move forward...

much Ruv and many hugs from

Petra, Stewie and his hungry Kittens

Thanks Paula, me too! We are truly grateful for all of your support! It helps to have a kick in the butt sometimes and make sure that we don’t get too down on ourselves. Stewie looks at me like I’m weird sometimes... like heh Mum, what the heck are you worried about!?!

But here’s to many hoppy days ahead.

Hugs to you Paula!

Petra I'm really happy to hear you've found some things that are helping everyone feel better! The Hoppy Hedgie added to the mix certainly helps 😉

it is probably due to the chemo still running its course through his body. Does this make sense to anyone out there? Is his immune system still compromised?

Sure I could see that.

We have been told and we are going to do more research on this one, that CBD and THC work together on cancer cells.

Keep a skeptical eye on this claim, as this is not documented in any study that I know about, or that was mentioned in the two cannabis for pets scientific sessions I sat in on at the Western Vet Conference this year. If you do find a legitimate published study please let me know. Thanks!

Thank you Rene! How long does the chemo stay in their system? Will I see Stewies coat coming back? Have you heard about issues often with coats. It seems that most people don’t notice a difference in their dogs coats after chemo??

Thank you for this as well... i am keeping very skeptical... i have read your cannabis blogs a couple of times and i am very wary of the THC content as well! This is why we haven’t started Stewie on anything right now. Paul wants to use the CBD oil for pain relief for Stu and because he appears to be doing pretty good, we are holding off on anything other than the Milk Thistle right now. I doubt that i will find any written studies supporting the THC content for pets, but i am keeping a watchful eye. Again if we can not find the absolute answer and if it is all conjectured, then we will refrain from trying it!

I will update as i can on this. I am hopeful for Spikey as he is so much more comfortable it seems. Stewie... well Stewie is just hoppy as long as he gets his treats, his meals and his lovin’, not always in that order!! I will let you know if we start any other therapy on him and its results...

Many hugs and much Ruv to you all

Thanks for the update, Petra. I've been thinking of Mr Handsome Huge Paws and wondering how he was getting on. I'm so pleased Stewie is moving better and that he has a genuine American hedgie (genus Enormous Nosus) to add to his collection. My Pie was on Milk Thistle as a pup, to support her liver, and help cleanse her system, of toxins (I think), whatever, it worked a treat for her, and she pulled through and grew strong against all the odds. Great news that the CBD suits Spikey so well too. Always love to see pics of the whole gorgeous gang.

Big love,

I've never heard of giving THC to pets, I've only heard of the CBD oil. I know of a few pawrents here who've really had good luck with the CBD. I initially got it for Nitro's arthritis, and eventually for his appetite as his kidney failure progressed. I'm interested to keep learning what you think of it. Hugs!

Hi Paula

i had never heard of it before either, we had always been warned against it. In shopping around these different Dispensary’s, they all said that because they are set up for humans that is what they are basing their knowledge on... this is why we have so much to dig into before we even consider it for Stewie.

If he starts to show any sign of discomfort, we will start him on the CBD oil for sure. Did you keep Nitro on the CBD oil long term or just while you saw his discomfort from his arthritis and then again for his appetite stimulant? Thanks for sharing this information with me Paula.

Many hugs to you and spirit kisses to Nitro

laughinglaughinglaughing Love it!

Re the Milk Thistle, it was when Else was tiny, and I mean TINY, smaller than one of Stewie's paws... She had massive gastrointestinal problems (hepatitis, pancreatitis, peritonitis all at once) and was on steroids, antibiotics and heaven only knows what. The Milk Thistle was prescribed by the vet to help support her system, and her liver in particular. I would think she was on it for a good six months.
