Thank you for this thread. Homer is expecting final pathology on his sarcoma this week, and I am trying to familiarize myself with the different therapies. They favored osteosarc on bone biopsy, but it was not conclusive. They did say it was a sarcoma though.
I am now just hearing of palladia .. and artemisinin .. so this information is great. The finances are also helpful to learn about.
Luckily, I am minutes away from the Penn Vet school and they do trials if need be. We are, however, being treated at a great speciality center where Homer has a dedicated surgeon and oncologist.
Thank you for this information.
isOkay all you computer techies with memory brain cells still intact…what’s the link to the comparisons of Carboplatin treatments (4, 5, or 6) that our dear Katy (Jackson’s mom) did for us?

How Many Chemotherapy Sessions are Best for Osteosarcoma in Dogs?
And, just to add more confusion, isnt the metronomic protocal supposedly….emphasis on supposedly…more effective AFTER chemo?
It's my understanding that metronomics is meant as a 'maintenance' kind of low-dose chemotherapy. It is not meant to replace IV chemo, since IV chemo is more potent. Many oncos are combining the two treatments now as a one-two punch but metronomics can be taken separately. It costs less and if you aren't doing IV chemo it's better than nothing at all.
If you are near UPenn have you looked into their clinical trial for osteosarcomas? Check out Shilo's blog, she is in it and doing very well even with lung mets. See:

Where in NJ are you? The resident that was assigned to my Jill (at our animal hospital you get a resident along with the main oncologist) now works at red bank and she is fantastic if you are close to red bank.
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. "Like" Jill's facebook page: https://www.fac.....tty?ref=hl Proud member of the WINTER WARRIORS!!!! Her blog can be read at http://jillsjou.....ipawds.com. xoxo
