Levi is not doing good. He had seizure this afternoon. I didnt know what was going on so I raced him to the vet...we dont know if it's an antibiotic that we started yesterday that could be causing this or could it be from cancer? Is it possible he isnt getting enough air to his brain because the mets are so big? Its now too late too call my regular vet. I think if he has one more we pay go to emergency vet and let him go...
Anyone else experience this?
I am a mess...

Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.

Oh, Erica, that must have been so scary.  I don't have any certain answers but I can tell you that some antibiotics can definitely cause seizures.  Which one is he on?  I do so hope this is just a bump in the road. Please keep us updated and give Levi a little kiss on the snout.

Lisa

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oh no!  I'm so sorry!  What did the vet say?

Was it a seizure or did he seem to pass out?  I do know that lung mets can cause low oxygen levels in the blood. (hypoxemia).  But I wouldn't say that is what happened to Levi, I'm just saying it can happen.  It could be something unrelated.

I'm so truly sorry.  Please let us know how he is.

i have no info on seizures, but we're sending our best ET juju to you guys, hoping this is just a reaction to the antibiotic and you can address it that way.   karen has experience with seizures with the pugs, hopefully she will jump in...

We don't have any experience with seizures either, but I don't remember anyone else on here ever saying they had a problem with them due to lung mets. Hopefully, as Lisa said, this is just a wee bump in the road and you still have some quality time with him.

Just wanted to let you know we are sending out pawsitive thoughts to you and Levi!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Seizures are incredibly scary, I would be a mess too. I'm so, so sorry.

Yesterday on Tripawd Talk Radio , Dr. Turner said that brain mets can happen when a dog is a year or two out from amputation, but the only way to tell for sure is through a MRI. sad Honestly I am not a vet but I dont think that the mets in his lungs can cause this. I may be wrong though, the only way to know for sure is to talk to the vet.

Has he had another seizure? I hope not. Please keep us posted.

Quad pug Tani has seizures caused by a brain disease. Seizures are scary.
Before the seizures started, in the past couple of days. was he wobbly or disoriented? Did he ever look confused? That would seem to me to indicate a growing brain issue. If they came on suddenly maybe it is the antiboitics. I'm just guessing- I have 10 years experience with Tani's condition, but I know what I am dealing with.
Queen Nova just started having some symptoms that might indicate a brain tumor. Here is the forum thread: http://tripawds.....rain-mets/. There is some info on other issues that could be causing the problems.

If Levi has a bunch of seizures close together, or has a long one he doesn't come out of you need to get him to the emergency vet.

I hope you can figure out what is going on with Levi.

Seizures are scary. They told me Daisys were most likely brain lesions, I do not know about seizures and antibiotics. Sending you our best wishes and thoughts.

We made it through the night without anymore seizures.  He is completely exhausted.  I've never seen him so tired.  I knew this was coming...I just can't believe he is really going to be gone.  He is such a great dog-so human-like.  Much more so than our other Dobe Koa.  This is gonna be hard.  Even if this seizure thing is just a fluke I know we're getting close to the end anyway.  His breathing seems to be "loud" in the mornings. Not panting but you can just hear him breathe...Tomorrow we are bringing our boat to our cottage.  I really hope he can go for a ride tomorrow...

Here he is...smiley
