One week on Rimadyl and it's going GREAT!
I have noticed for the past month that he's been less active (more sleepy), but he wasn't showing any signs of specific weakness or pain. Then 1-1/2 weeks ago, he had some trembling in his back legs during a visit to the park, held his tail between his legs while standing and refused to walk up or down the stairs that night.
The vet agreed that his arthritis had advanced and prescribed Rimadyl. This is in addition to the Dasuquin supplement that he's been taking since his amputation.
It's just wonderful to see a little more bounce in his hop these past few days. My big puppy. I love him so....
Don't scare us like that Rumbles! Glad that you're feelin' good again. You've got some great medical care there for you!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Yay Rumbles!! So happy you are feeling your bounce come back again 🙂 Lylee's taking 75mg Rimadyl once a day as part of her metronomic therapy and I know it has the added benefit of helping her with aging joints.

Oh that's wonderful! Glad to hear it is helping.
In Comet's older years, she too needed Rimadyl. And it really helped! I could tell when it "kicked in" daily.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
rumbles - glad you are getting back into the swing of life!!! better living with chemicals!

Awww, super cute picture of the Rumbly-boy! Glad to hear he's feeling so perky. Go, get that kitty, Rumbles!!!
I know your vet has likely spoken with you about regular monitoring while on Rimadyl, and I can't stress how important I think this is. Some dogs are more sensitive to cumulative NSAID use, and this is the best way to stay on top of any early warning signs for kidney or liver damage. My Nakita was doing so well on the Rimadyl that I got complacent about the regular monitoring, and she ended up with kidney failure... And now I can't help but feel guilty that I wasn't more diligent.
Hugs to Rumbles from me!

Yes, our vet did emphasize that. He said that since Rumbles had pre-surgery bloodwork in May '11, we'd do bloodwork again in May '12. He said that would give us good info to know if the Rimadyl was having any early effect on his kidneys.
Thanks for the reminder, though. I appreciate all the input I get here on Tripawds!
Glad to hear it is working for Rumbles! It sure helps old lady quad pug Tani get around.
But be sure you're checking liver function on the rimadly- I know from personal experience that NSAIDs can affect the liver. Tani has been on it for over a year now with no problems.
