I have one special thing to be grateful for today and wanted to share with everyone.

Rosie went for her first real walk as a tripawd and got to run all the way down the driveway and to the north edge of my property and back. Her tail was wagging and she had a huge smile on her face. She was kissing Braden (brother) and sniffing away. It was all of 4 minutes. Of course she's exhausted now but slow and steady she's coming back!!

Staples came out yesterday. ย Today she is a totally different dog! ย She starts chemo on Friday after meeting with the rehab vet to discuss conditioning. ย She has a lot of muscle loss due to 2 major surgeries in 7 weeks. ย I have every bit of faith that she is going to fully recover. ย

Vote for Rosie! โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•

Pawesome! clap Way to go Rosie...now, take it slowly and focus on core strengthening, stretches and balance work before overdoing it.

Loving Life On Three Legs is filled with tips and links to videos and podcasts about the amount and type of exercise recommended for new tripawds. Or, consider consulting with a certified rehab tech (CCRP or CCRT ) for a professional opinion and more exercises you can do at home to build strength and prevent injuryโ€”that's whay we created the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab!

Thanks! ย  She has some extra challenges as she recovers, due to the recent TPLO. As a consequence, her backend is pretty weak. Thank goodness we have a great CCRT ย and are scheduled tomorrow to take a look at her condition, and figure out the best plan for a slow and steady recovery. I can't wait until it's time for her to get back into the water treadmill. Her favorite stretches are what we call a yoga stretch, where she has to turn around and touch your nose to her butt. It's a little more challenging on three legs, but again she will do most anything for a treat.

We are also doing PROM and massage. ย

Heck! ย Her workout routine is more robust than mine right now. ย

I love the e-books, and have been using them as a resource and reference daily. I so appreciate all of the information, and everyone else's support.

pain pill reduction- couldn't find a lot on that. ย Keeping her on Gabapentin and Rymadyl 2 x day. ย She was on 100mg tramadol as well 3 x day. ย I've reduced the tramadol to 50mg 3 x day. ย The vet said I could probably stop more rapidly, but I want to make sure we don't backslide. ย

Question? ย What have others done about reducing tramadol? ย My plan is to keep her on Rymadyl and Gabapentin 2 x day for awhile. ย Then also reduce the tramadol from 50mg 3x day to 2 x day for a week after this weeks reduction, then to 1 a day for a week, and finally only when showing signs of pain. ย

Seeing hop, smile and wag is such a joyful sight to see! ย

Thanks so much!

Yeah Rosie!!!ย  Whoo Hooo! clapI'll bet that run down the driveway was the best one ever!

For reducing the tramadol, I think I reduced it every 3 days or so ... So right now you're doing every 8 hours, I would do every 12 hours for a couple of days, then every 16 hours for a couple of days, then just one a day for a few days.

My Otis was on 3 Tramadol every 8 hours. ย The day the staples came out (day 10), the surgeon said to eliminate the midday dose. ย We eliminated the morning dose a couple of days later, and finally reduced the bedtime dose to one pill, from the original 3. ย In week 4, we eliminated that single evening pill. ย The vet gave me discretion in terms of how fast to go.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. ย Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. ย Lung mets August 25, 2016.ย ย Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. ย  Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.ย ย

Thank you for all the feedback. ย

In the past week we've reduced Rosie to medications only 2 x day. ย She is taking one 50mg, instead of 2, tramadol with one Gabapentin and one Rymadyl with each meal. ย  It seems to be a good dose for now. ย

Will likely reduce to one time daily after she gets through week 1 of chemo. ย Her first dose of Carboplatin was yesterday. ย So far so good. ย She ate breakfast no problem. ย Hopefully wiill at dinner too. ย

Yesterday we drove to a small park. ย She got 8 minutes to fly-hop. ย I had her leashed so at least it was only half speed. ย If left to her she would run as hard and fast as she could. ย Not yet. ย Slow and steady Miss Rosie.ย

She has water treadmill scheduled Wednesday. As long as her WBC doesn't drop. ย  We have 4 visits left and will re-evaluate when done as to best approach. ย

Thinking I will keep her on Rymadyl and Gabapentin throughout chemo. ย

Again-thanks for the love, support and encouragement. ย

Mom Kellye, Rosie the Wonder Tripawd and her faithful sidekick Braden. ย โค๏ธ๐Ÿ•โค๏ธ๐Ÿ•

Soooo happy to hear how well she's doing!! Keep rockin' Miss Rosie!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Check with your Vet, but Rosie may not even need her Gaba throughout the chemo! Sounds like she's well on the way to being completely pain free! Good job!!

Cheering for "no issue" chemo treatments!!

Awwww! I couldn't see the video before because I didn't have enough signal. They're so sweet together and Rosie just seems so totally at ease and happy. Big smiles here!
