So, mostly good news. Riot is 6 weeks from his amputation tomorrow. He's eating almost regularly now. I still have to occasionally grind up his kibble with some Spam, or in one case, meatloaf. He does have a small benign tumor on his eyelid that ulcerated on Sunday. It's not emergent, but he has surgery scheduled in two weeks to have it removed. Assuming his blood work from today, and pre-chemo blood work next week comes back good. He did gain four pounds from two weeks ago, so we may need to find a way to get him to eat his dinner spread out. He doesn't like to eat before dinner, so that may not happen.

So, all in all, he's quite happy. He's gone off into the woods a little bit a few times. He can go up the two wider porch stairs about 90% of the time now. He has his first PT appointment in two days. We're hoping to get him strong enough to go up full stairs again. How long did it take your tripawds to grow their hair back? He's barely getting any fuzz.

YEAH! This is such great pawgress! We are celebrating right with you, congratulations! Riot is rockin' the Tripawd life! smiley16smiley_clap

Keeping a good weight on a Tripawd is tough. The general rule is slimmer than other dogs of his breed, so work with your vet to find the ideal weight for him.

As for fur growing back....well it really depends on the dog. I recall it took our Jerry at least three months for the fur to almost look normal again where he was shaved, and probably another month until it reached the same length as the rest of his coat. Riot will get there eventually!

Thank you! I just got word from the vet that his blood work from yesterday looked great. So, if his oncologist gives the all clear, he'll have his eye surgery in two weeks. I was supposed to hear back from her today, but they close in an hour. I hope I don't have to wait a weekend for news. His next chemo is next week, so we have to schedule around that.

Overall a great update!

I think it took almost 7 months for my Pug Maggie's fur to fully come back.  I know chemo isn't supposed to affect fur but she had some thinning on her chest and the fur on her amp site seemed not to fully come back until she was done with chemo (mast cell cancer).  Mag had a very thick black double coat and the difference between her shaved area and the rest of her body was very noticeable until her coat was fully back.

I adopted Elly about 2.5 months after her amp due to a car accident and her fur was close to being fully back but you can see in some of the early pics I have of her that it is not quite as full as the rest of her coat.  Her single coat is also very thin, and she is piebald with black ticking so it's not as noticeable as Maggie's was.

BTW- every time I see a post from you that old Clash song pops into my headsmiley4

Haha. That's a throw back song.

Okay. That makes me feel better a little out how long it's taking his to grow back.

The oncologist called back. If his bloodwork looks good the day before surgery, he'll be good to go. I hate he has to have another surgery so soon, but it's the only real option.

Love the picture!  A good looking crew!!

Can't  remember  how long it took for Happy Hannah's fur to grow back.  I do recall that, once it started filling in fairly well her incision area no longer got my attention.  I forgot she was a tripawd!

And remember,  this is NOT major surgery like the amputation  was.  It will not take nearly as long, and most likely  not nearly the heavy sedation. I know that doesn't  help you much though.  Still a bummer that he has to go through this.😟

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Yes. I keep telling myself this is "minor" in comparison. It is still hard though. Especially as bg he's 12, with cancer, and I want all of his remaining time to be as good as possible.

He had his first PT appointment today. Riot rocked it! They think we can get him strong enough for stairs again.

He's very happy. He doesn't like that he can't walk as far as we used to. He does have a LOT of personality.
