I just dropped Munchkin off at the vet for his surgery. The office said they would call me when its over.  Are there any particular questions I should ask?

make sure you understand all the drugs they are prescribing and how they want you to use them.  also, get an 'on call' phone number for peace of mind if you can.  good luck!

Whew! OK, we'll keep our paws crossed for a successful surgery!

In addition to what Charon & Gayle said, some questions we have in our ebook, Three Legs & A Spare, are:

- what should I bring when I pick him up?

- what were the last medications given and when?

- what should I do if the incision starts leaking?

- what can I expect during the first 48-hours?

Good luck. Keep us posted!

Just four weeks ago I was sitting right where you are tonight, worried sick. we dropped Gunner off for his surgery and went home. It was a VERY long night!  The waiting, the worry, the wondering..........it was all a bit too much. Oh I remember it well! Stay busy if you can, that helps some. I started Gunner's Story here on tripawds, that helped alot. Everyone was so caring and supportive. Some how the next day comes, the phone call comes and not until you get there and see for yourself.........will it be okay. Once you see Munchkin so very glad to see you, tail wagging and ready to home, will you be okay. His eyes will tell you all you need to know......"Let's go Home!"

So, go easy on yourself tonight. Try to rest (yea right!) you'll need it! The first few days are a lot to get use to. Munchkin will help you, tho! Most of all, know that everyone here is truly here to help, always! Tripawds is the greatest group of two legged, three legged and even four legged pets & people I have ever had the pleasure to know! Prayers for you & Munchkin!

Just got off phone with vets office. They said just over half way through they are stitching him up. They told me the stitching will take a long time. This is so hard, the waiting part. I hate putting animals under anesthesia. I had one cat that I fostered who was allergic and since then the stuff scares me.

Surgery is over, now we are just waiting for him to wake up. The vets front desk people are not happy with me because I keep calling them.

They will get over it.  Do what you need to do to make you satisfied.  You're paying them.

It's ok to worry and wonder. I got so tired of waiting for them to call...the spose to be 45 min surgery lasting 3 hours that I went there so I could stand at the counter, continually putting my elbow on the counter and peering at the receptionsist and then I would pace up and down the hallway where ICU was located!

So see...you are being patient laughing

Healing wishes to Munchki!

You hang in there! Hopefully you will get to be reunited with him soon!

Yah, pain meds make a lot of us cranky. Go with the flow and remember that when dogs are injured and healing, they usually want to be left alone. That's what we do in the wild.

We're thinking of you guys. Get well soon Munchkin!
