Welp, today was dose number deux of our compounded Palladia. The WonderPup seems to be tolerating it well, although she was a little gassy this morning.ugh  The prednisone regimen seems tougher on her with the unquenchable thirst; we actually took her to a spot called Lucky Dog (bar, brewery and puppy play palace) and she over hydrated with all the buckets of water there. She has had some issues with urine leakage and the vet's office flat out said to restrict her fluid intake. I feel like a sh*t for doing it because I know she's thirsty but we had an afternoon of pale gums on Sunday and I'm not going back to that - scary!

The super great news is that the tumor responded well with just prednisone last time and is already reducing again, less than one week into the treatment plan. I sure hope it shrinks down to almost nada because my ole girl is fat n sassy and wants to stick around. I'm going to try to post some pics of her during our visit to my friend Kate's house from the weekend and once I get my professional shots back, I'll update with those. Also adding a pic of the shrinking MCT. (FTR - I wrote a great post about the trip to the oncologist but it didn't save and I was too lazy to re-create it. That said, I got a lot of fantastic info and a write up from the oncologist, laying out the approximate costs of all treatment options and I'm willing to share w anyone interested).

Oh gosh! You really can see the improvement in her law! 'That's WONDERFUL! This is a great update!

And Izzy is absolutely beautiful! Such a beautiful and very sweet face!

I love that she got to go to the Doggy Bar with her friends! I'm sure she inspired everyone who saw her!

I know it must be really, really hard restricting her water intake when she's on a drug that .makes her so thirsty. Ugh!

Thanks for giving us an update...a really good update! Keep em coming WITH more wonderful pictures!:-)

Love!

How wonderful!  So happy there is a noticeable reduction and she looks so happy and, yes, sassy!  Izzy is beautiful!

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

She looks SO great. Her smile says it all: she's loving life!

Sorry your post didn't save. We are having intermittent issues with that. Always "copy" your whole post before hitting the "Submit Reply" or "Post Topic" buttons just in case. I would love to see the treatment options the onco suggested.

Glad to know the tumor is shrinking!

Oh as for fluid intake: I know what you mean, we felt terrible for pulling Jerry's water up at night when he was on Pred. I wonder if there's a hydration treat or something that will quench a dog's thirst but not add fluid to the body? Some magic something or other? Maybe your oncologist knows? Just thinking out loud.

And yes, share those professional pics, that would be fun!

Good idea Jerry ( as usual).....maybe chewing ice cubes would help the urge? Even "chewing" on a frozen twisted wash rag? Making sure Izzy doesn't try and swallow the rag of course!

I just came across your post searching for Palladia. Our puppy is fighting a MCT (lost his right hind leg to a tumor) and he starts Palladia and prednisone tomorrow. Did your dog end up tolerating the drug okay during her entire treatment? Good to know about the prednisone, our oncologist said he would be thirsty, but I didn't think we'd have to restrict his water intake!

SOrry that I've been remiss in following up. Izzy had just started Palladia when I made my last post but had been on prednisone for about 5 days. She's been tolerating the meds well but her nose is changing color - apparently this can happen and the oncologist says she's seen it most in light colored dogs. Suffice to say that Izzy's now got a brown snout instead of black and I think she's got a UTI - I saw the pink pee this morning at 2:45 am and again at about 3:05 after trips outside. She'll see her "regular" vet tomorrow as I don't want to make her wait for her 1 month re-check w the oncologist. Yes, the cash is just flying out of the wallet lol

I wanted to share some of the photos my friend Kate took while we visited her - yes, I posted some of my own but she's the real deal. But first, Izzy's tumor! I wish I'd gotten a before photo - maybe I did and I just can't find it - but wow, it's almost gone and there's no need for a photo reference. Just look ...

 < after 15 doses (30 days)

< after 1 dose of Palladia, day 5 of pred

The color is slightly off in the most recent pic but you can tell that she's turning "yellow" (brown). I'm hoping that we can back off the frequency of the palladia & prednisone a bit to relieve some of the (admittedly mild) side effects.

And here are the long awaited photo shoot results! These were taken after just one dose of the meds so her nose was still black!

Now if only I could get her nails shorter! 😉

How wonderful!!  So happy to see how well the Palladia and Pred are working for her!

Pofi is also taking Palladia and Rimadyl.  We are having the very mild side effect of irritation around the nose on his snout - where his tongue hits his snout when he licks his lips...

Try using bag balm on Pofi's nose!

Thanks for all the love, friends. Miss Iz went to her regular vet today and they confirmed the UTI but nothing gets my girl down! I've got her some meds for that and she's still happy and hungry! laughing

I hope everyone had a great Christmas or holiday! Izzy dreamed of snacks and more snacks and maybe hugs from her momma. I meant to get some photos of her decked out in her Christmas attire - we went to visit her vet on Christmas eve, just to deliver some fudge and a present - she looked so cute!

Izzy has been doing so so so great but today, we suffered a setback. She seemed to be having trouble with her left leg (her only left leg, on which she had the knee surgery in Sept) this morning ... it was almost kicking out toward her chest when she tried to walk. I called the specialist and they didn't seem overly alarmed but advised I could bring her in tomorrow or Tuesday. Well, she seemed much better tonight and when I was loving on her after dinner, I looked at her foot ...

Image Enlarger

That is as bad as I've ever seen her tumor. We've stayed on the Palladia course and she was in for a checkup in mid-late November and looked good. She just ran out of meds on Saturday and (I found out today when I called that) her refill is in at the vet but this was NOT there two weeks ago ... maybe not even a week ago when I filed her nails. The aggressiveness concerns me a LOT but I know there might be another drug we can try, it's just twice as expensive. I'm so disappointed - she's been SO happy and playful and even has been visiting the neighbor lately - but I'll have her in to see her oncologist in the morning and hope for the best.

It's "funny" (not), I was considering becoming an R+F Consultant to try to earn some extra money (and because I love the products) but really wasn't sure about selling something. Well, I'm here to tell you, if that is what I need to do to afford medicine for my Izzy? Sign me up. I will do whatever I have to so that she can keep being my happy, silly girl.

Anyway, please say puppy prayers for my girl. I will update everyone tomorrow or Friday once I know more!
