What you read is correct smiley And I think I can "hear" a little more relief on your end clap Hopefully a little more relief will result in some better rest heart

Wishing for a much less complicated day that has plenty of naps included in it!!

YES so much more relief. I’m trying not to jump out of my skin every time she tries to stand up. I had been insisting on helping her with the rear sling, but today she doesn’t want the help.

I am! I see a very dim light, but it’s getting closer by the hour! It’s 8:35 here actually. Ziva is a little restless right now so I’m gonna need to wait for my BFF to get home in about an hour to take another nap

Hi, all! Today was GREAT! Ziva and I slept for probably 70% of the day and I feel SO MUCH BETTER! We haven’t seen any drainage in 2 days so I think we’re finished with that part! THANK DOG - that was soooo stressful! I’m excited for our post op visit on Monday!! Let’s see if we can get these stitches out. Her pain still comes and goes in spurts - or at least it seems Ike it. I’m just relieved that things are going more smoothly. She still has trouble standing up on her own - but once she’s up she does a pretty good job of hopping around. She gets tired pretty quickly and has to sit or lay down, but I’m sure she’s limiting herself. Unless she’s just getting used to me helping her up with the sling and being a brat, but who knows. All I know is I feel like I can finally breathe again and it’s amazing!

Yay!! 👏👏👏👏 I just can't even tell you in words how thrilled i am for you... You DID it!!!!

No matter whether she needs spoiling or is adjusting to her new normal (or both, lol) makes no difference, indulge her and celebrate her recovery 🤜🤛❤️❤️❤️

I know this has been a nail biter. And i know you're all exhausted, but you have a lot to be proud of here!

Big hugs and lots of love,

Jackie and Huck ❤️❤️

Super DUPER HOPPY NEWS! The progress you're seeing is spot-on. Yeah, she will be a bit tired these first few weeks, it's a lot of work getting around on three legs but she IS getting there!

Speaking of limiting kind of behavior, you may want to check out this video interview with rehab therapist Sasha Foster. Just something to keep in mind during these next few weeks of you getting a feel for the "new normal."

Do Dogs “Self-Limit” Their Activity? Or Are They in Pain?

It will take her awhile to build strength and endurance.  When Mag was recovering from her rear amp you could tell right away when she was tired because her back leg would wobble.  Right after surgery it wobbled after only a minute or two standing, but as she got stronger she could stand longer.  In her case she would just sit when she got tired.

Elly came to me 2.5 months after her rear amp and she was fully healed but not very strong.  Her foster mom did a great job getting her though the amp surgery and recovery as well as recovery from surgery on both eyes, but with 6 other dogs in foster she didn't have time to spend working on her strength.  Oh, and foster mom broke her own leg about 1.5 months after Elly's surgery so she wasn't getting around too well either.

Once the healing is done and the sutures are out you can start working on her strength and balance, it really does make a difference when their core is strong.

I'm so glad you got some rest!  It really makes the world brighter when your mind and body are refreshed.

Well, we’ve made it through the majority of day 11 with no hiccups!! 🙏🏻

She went for a very short walk when she went out to potty today. She was in the mood to explore! Ziva keeps wanting to jump up on the couch, so we’re having to keep an eye on her when she’s up and walking around. Here’s a pic from today

Awwww, a very pretty gal🤗

A day with no "hiccups" is a splendid day!!!

Dogs just will not be denied  getting  up on THEIR couch!  I always marvel at how strong the bond is between  a dog and their couch!  Such a good sign that she's  ready to reclaim her rightful placs😎

It’s a great sign! She also wants to get in her kennel, but I’m not quite comfortable with her trying that yet. She has a traditional kennel with about an inch and a half to step over at the bottom. Should we wait a lot longer to let her get in?

Thank you! We’re soooo excited about her progress and hope to get good news from the vet tomorrow. We still haven’t heard back about the histopathology - so I’m anxious to hear about that as well. We’ve discussed it time and time again - we don’t care how long this surgery has extended her life for, we’re just happy and blessed to have the time we do, good or bad ♥️
