All,
I haven't been keeping up with the forums but I wanted to update everyone on Polo’s treatment because he’s doing very well on low dose chemo. We are approaching his 4-month Tripawd anniversary, 29 Sep 2009, octeosarcoma, front left leg. Polo started taken Melphalan, mfg’d by Alkeran three weeks post-op, 4mg (2mg pill x 2) daily for the first 7-days, and now he receives 4mg every other day. He has had zero side effects (low dose approach) and his monthly blood work is consistently (almost) normal. His red cells have run on the low side of normal since the first check, post-op in Oct. Our doctor and his staff are extremely pleased with his progress—and his lungs always sound good. That’s all I need to hear—I’ve told my doc that I don’t want to know everything. I recommend consulting your doctor on the low dose approach and ask about Melphalan—might be an option for you. Anyone can contact me or my wife Jenny at mikeandjenny2@cox.net if you have specific questions, Polo has a Tripawds blog, “Big Dog” as well. I’m not very technologically advanced (at home) but I check from time to time.
I updated the Big Dog blog with Christmas photos if you’d like to see how well Polo is doing.
Happy New Year everyone.

Hey Polo
Great to hear your news. And it is certain to be of interest to some of the newbies who are looking into alternatives to regular high-dose chemo. (For the record, the "low-dose" also goes by the names metronomics or anti-angiogenesis).
Keep up the good living, Polo!
Such good news for Polo. I love hearing about the alternatives and how they are working. More options for this dread disease is a good thing. Keep up the good work, Polo. Here's wishing many, many more great months for you.

From the photos on your new Christmas 2009 page on Polo's blog, it looks like he had a very Merry Christmas indeed! Thanks for the update.
FYI: If you want to publish regular updates on Polo's blog, use the Posts -> Add New tab instead of adding pages. Regardless, thanks for sharing this great update!

Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Tazzie: I remember talking with you about stairs--you'll be glad to hear that Polo has no problem negotiating them. He was going up with no worries and I would help him down until one day he beat me to it. We still sleep downstairs to limit their use because Polo's mom is afraid he'll have an accident. It's good to know that he can get down OK on his own if necessary.
Angel Jake's Mom: I checked out your blog/photos of Wolfie and Nala, nice to see the breakdown of social barriers...

I don't check out the blogs very much so it was good to hear how Polo is doing. Stay healthy Polo!
