Hi all, We have been trying to decide about doing more xrays of Abby's lungs. I had told her onc we didn't want to do them if there were no other treatment options left - didn't want to know what was going on in there if it was possibly going to be bad news with nothing we could do about it. Well, he said we could try masitinib if things didn't look great. So... tomorrow at 12:30 we'll be getting the next set of X-rays.
Hopefully we'll find that the routine we've been doing (artemisinin /Cytoxan) is working well and keeping Boris & Natasha (her two lung mets) from starting a family/getting fat and happy. If that's the case (which would be very good news...), we just continue what we are doing. If, on the other hand, things don't look great in there, we'll abandon the current routine and try the masitinib. The masitinib is supposed to be similar to palladia (which we had to abandon) but her onc said he's seen dogs do well on one and not the other or vice versa.
So, please keep a good thought for us tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
We will say a little prayer for you Abby and your mom too!
Sending you good thoughts that your x-rays show only good things in there. 🙂
Your such a beautiful girl, we were just admiring you in the calender we got today!
Gentle hugs, the Roo Boyz

Thanks Roo Boyz! We just got our calendar today too and were excited to see Lil' cutie Wyatt in there, doing the wave!

Sending all sorts of pawsitive thoughts Abby's way, Jackie. I understand how stressful chest x-rays can be. At one point I decided to stop doing them altogether, at least until I feel there is reason to worry. I hope that Boris and Natasha are withering away and totally not in baby-making mode! Stupid @#$&ing cancer.
How long has Abby being on the cytoxan? Nova started on cytoxan/piroxicam back in 2009 after her chemo was done, but had to drop the cytoxan within the first 2 months. It's been just piroxicam (and some other supplements) since then.
I will be thinking of you and Abby tomorrow!

Dane Mom Sue at nova.tripawds.com and Mom to Beautiful Great Dane Queen Nova, a Blind Tripawd, who kicked cancer's butt from 11/08-03/13. The Queen is Spirit Nova now, but her legacy lives on here at Tripawds!
I second what KaCee said. I hope Boris and Natasha have been shipped off to Siberia, and are currently digging around in the snow for sticks and berries to keep from starving to death. And it wouldn't make me sad at all if that happened. We are crossing everything that's crossable -- from eyeballs to cross-hairs -- in hopes that tomorrows appointment goes well.
We'll be thinking of you while we're at our appointment!

Thanks everypawdy!
She sure seems healthy... she's been a beast all night, terrorizing me: barking at me, chewing on my feet, trying to steel my socks. I finally had to resort to filling her bone with peanut butter to keep her busy so I could catch up w/ everyone over here!
Sue, she has been on cytoxan/piroxicam since I think April. She used to take it on T/Th/S/S and the Palladia on M/W/F. When we dropped the palladia, she went to every day for the cytoxan. We haven't done an xray since then. I also started the artemisinin right after the last xray in July, so hopefully good things are happening in there.
Yes, send Boris & Natasha to Siberia!
Thanks again for all the good wishes.

Abby, I have a feeling that your cancer butt-kicking days will continue! I'm crossing my 2 back legs, the toes on my front leg and my eyes for you! Mom says I've gotta be careful with the eyes 'cuz they might stay that way (I don't think it's true, and it's worth it anyway) I sure hope I get to meet you some day!
Love,
Ranger
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.
